Is Homework Really Important For A Child's Academic Excellence?

The traditional education system has always relied on homework to promote students learning, study habits, and academic excellence in students. However, the topic of homework being effective is a hot one among parents/guidance and even students. Some say that homework is 100% essential to achieve academic success, while others believe that it's a total waste of time and energy; after all, they've learned all they should in school, why stress the kids...
It wasn't until this prompt that I knew that this was even a topic of conversation. Abolishing homework, Really??
I mean, as students, we all kinda hate doing our assignments, and on days when we weren't given one, we felt like we won the lottery.

The question is Would abolishing homework completely ruin the system that has worked for so long or it would make it even better??

No doubt abolishing homework will give students a lot of breathing space; they would have more time to focus on other aspects of life and trust me when I say it would reduce their stress and anxiety levels by 100%. On the other hand, homework helps them to study better; during that process, they also learn how to manage their time, work under pressure, and take responsibility as they're the ones trying to solve every problem.

The truth is that not all students have access to the same resources and support at home. Some parents aren't even willing to help their children with their homework, while some are always too busy to even spend quality time. This can put those sets of students at a disadvantage.
Everyone can't suffer because of one person tho 🌚
Some parents also feel like homework has so much stress attached to it.
My little brother in primary two would come home every single day of the week with at least five homework and each homework had at least two whole pages. The aim is to teach him and make him understand, but most times, I'm always tired, so I help him write down the answers, and all he does is copy and paste. I mean, you wouldn't blame me, after all the stress from the day, and also at night, I would still have to teach somebody again?? Hahahah, absolutely not. I only take my time on weekends to teach him until he understands.
I think these are some valid points why homework should be abolished, but they're still not God enough to completely wipe it off

Instead of abolishing homework completely, why not proffer a solution that would make everyone happy.
The solution to this problem is very simple and easy to apply.

Schools should reduce the amount of homework assigned to their students. I remember when I was still in high school, I would take nothing less than four assignments home every day, and I closed from school around 4pm, sometimes 5pm, so you could imagine the little time I had with me to actually walk home, take my bath, eat, relax, probably do my house chores, wash my socks, and then beg my siblings for their phones to research some of the questions online. Sometimes I stay up very late just to make sure I finish up everything, only to wake up early the next morning and be in school before 8am.

Providing additional support for students who don't have access to some materials. It would go a long way if schools would lend books, and other materials for research. Like me, I didn't have most of the textbooks, so doing homework was always a problem for me. I only had the option of browsing the Internet for the answers.

Homework might be stressful, but it has helped a lot of students who are struggling academically to catch up. During that process, they learn how to manage their time, work under pressure, and also to show up and get the job done despite having little time.

Thanks for stopping by ❤️

Home work is actually important for a school child, though it can be stressful for some students.

Thank you for sharing

The fact that many parents those days (7-13 years ago) really believed that homework does help, some even love it in numbers. It actually doesn't help because we only did them because we had to, not because we loved doing it: they were always in numbers.

I remember when I used to help a little girl with her homework, I get tired because it's too much for a kid. Some teachers give these kids so many homework to cover for their own work.

Schools should adjust their perception of what homework is and how teachers give them out to pupils and students.

It actually did help, especially the ones where the teachers were kind enough to explain before giving as homework.
It's just that the system is bad and teachers see homework as a way y cover their scheme of work , so they bombard students with it lol

Homework helped me, especially in senior secondary school. Some teachers needs to be arrested, they are the cause of the evening cry of many cute kids 😂 (that's if you have witnessed them crying)

Wow this is great and very educative seriously

I am in favor that students have free time, they have enough to attend classes sitting in a chair listening to an adult who asks them to be silent.
