When Freedom Becomes a Threat to the Vulnerable

I saw a movie sometime back, the story began to replay in my head immediately I read the prompt so I'll just tell it briefly before I share my thoughts about the question on the prompt. It's a Korean movie, if I remember correctly and it was about a guy who has been living carefree until he witnessed a random crime and volunteered help.

The part of the story that connects to this prompt is where the guy was put in charge to keep watch and track of a man who was released from prison after serving some years for sex crime against children. His job was simple, take note of when the man makes suspicious move and alert.

On the very day of release, this particular offender had his eyes set on a girl child looking at him being taken to his home, from the window. It was a slow moment but somehow, none of the security men or crowds hating on him notice his stare at the child, only viewers could already tell.

Over a month, this man was good and living in peace at his apartment in the environment, although under police surveillance (the volunteer guy) so they started considering letting him be, like not watching him anymore. Just around that time, the volunteer guy noticed something off.

He didn't understand what it is until the man made the mistake of stepping out and going into a corner he had never gone to before, with another guy. He was followed out of instinct and the volunteer guy found out the man met with some guy who after researches, he sells girls.

During the research, the volunteer guy finds out the offender has held hostage of the little girl he was staring at. She is his next victim and he plans to sleep with her before he sells her to the guy who would resell her for more money. The little girl was saved from the man's plan, luckily.

Then the man was given a lifetime imprisonment, half dead. Every viewer thought it was perfect that way because they think he shouldn't have been released before because he's bound to do the same thing he was sent to prison for. Although there may be few exceptions but rare.

Personally, I do not think these sex offenders even after they've shown repentance, should be allowed casually to get close to their children or any other children. I like as some countries does it, they watch these offenders even after they've been evicted just to be sure of their decisions.

If a country can't do that, I don't see any reasons for a sex crime offender to be around what will cause them to commit that same crime without even thinking. It's like habits, whether good or bad, we tend to go back to it somehow especially when it gives us pleasure. That's the case here.

It's sad that these men are out there, especially the ones that haven't been caught yet. So I think it's only right to protect the children from the ones that have been caught, with wisdom and love to protect the little ones so they could have a normal life. It's very traumatic for those affected.
