I saw "kid gloves" in the prompt and got curious, wondering what it means because I've never seen that word combination before. Turns out it's an idiom and I didn't get deep into idioms enough to learn that particular one lol. Had to share this part first because I'm glad to have learned this today and it's easier to share my thoughts after.
I think there was a series that was trending some months ago about an adolescence who killed someone, I didn't see it but from the countless reviews I read, the child goes into trials and close to being imprisoned. I'm not sure how exactly it played out but there was definitely nothing close to "kid glove" about how the matter was handled.
And I think it goes down to the kind of crime committed, the motive if revealed and how wise the child has gotten not minding the age. The kind of crime committed and if they know or saw how it happened, can determine if it's a child that should be treated as an adult or not. The act can show a lot how dangerous it is to not treat them.

When investigated or when the deed has been revealed, understanding what the motive could be behind the crime committed will also help the adults know if it's really just a child or a wise little adult because a crime by such a child that goes unpunished is most likely to repeat itself and it could be in more dangerous and irreversible way.
Then lastly, there are people who know the child closely before a crime was committed. They should be able to tell if he or she has always really just being a child or have been showing mature traits because no matter how we want to see it, some kids get matured and wiser than their age and and this is in every other aspects.
So if a child have been this "matured but little" and he or she commits a crime that normally would deserve trial if he or she was an adult, it should be considered after it is confirmed that the child had always showed maturity traits. So if there was nothing like that, he or she should be treated with kid gloves but with good restrictions.
If it's a lighter crime, I think other measures can be used but for serious crimes especially the ones that results in loss of lives or massive property loss, the consideration of putting them on trial is not out of place. I may not know how worse the society will get if that is not put in place but I know such child do need discipline.
After all, I think we have more wise kids growing up now than before so it should be considered to discipline them more with a heart that wants to save their adulthood than a heart that wants to just save them from a present act that must be corrected. After all, they will be adults one day.

You made an important point to note. The development of the child and the nature of crime matters. So, that should be considered, not just a general scale for minors.
