From Upbringing to Experience: Redefining My Moral Standards

When I was a child, everything I learned was from my guardians and how they view morals. I can say everything I knew regarding moral standing until I grew older and wiser, was from my upbringing which were influenced by both culture and religion. I grew up in a house that taught morals without much words said, we just learned.

But as I grew older and wiser, living life and having experience in different aspects of life, I began to unlearn some understanding I had about mora ls and started to learn morals over again. But some things haven't changed because they were both true before and still true today so I just live by them on an autopilot, no faking them.

Morals can vary according to where one learns them, especially from upbringing. A lot of people are living by what they have been taught right from childhood and never questioned why some things are the way they are and why they must keep up some morals. This is why a lot are living by the moral standing they had from childhood.

Personally, I was like that until I gained admission to the university to actually make decisions for myself, relate with new people and build connections around. All that experiences were a test to what I believed as my moral standing and over time, I understood that some morals I held too strong must change and some will never do.

Over time, especially until some months back, I began to really see how experiences and the mind to learn and grow have influenced my morals to an extent. I'm not saying that I believe in the morals I've always stood by, I just feel it's wise to keep an open mind for the ones that are not influenced by the word of God (the Bible).

Noticed I said, the Bible (the word of God) and not religion. I did see how religion can impact ones moral standing but I'm beginning to see more of how a personal relationship with God is what actually influences one's moral standing more. Christ was a good man while on earth, setting great examples of good moral standing.

And if I say I am Christ-like (a Christian), it totally means I am supposed to have a moral standard that isn't influenced by any man but Christ. Of course, it's not an easy route but it's different, it's right and it has a lasting promise. I may still have some wrong or bad moral standing I'm yet to fix but I'm totally for the moral standing with Christ.

I think that question of something that isn't a crime doesn't make it a good thing, comes up because people are trying to be good in their own eyes and not how exactly the world see them. Everybody is right, everybody has good moral standard, everything hates crime, until we see people not being who they say they are by action.
