Pollution is one of those things that we almost cannot do away with in the society. There is no single day that passes without carrying human activities from various forms of life. Although some forms of pollution are just natural. But almost any form of pollution is a result of the action or inaction of human beings.

As we would all know; Pollution is the contamination of the environment by harmful substances, particularly harmful gases that may be poisonous to human system and animals too.

Fortunately, the environment where I live in is not really affected by harmful pollution of any form. However, some human activities still serve as a source of it. Some of them are;

Mismanagement of waste

For as long as humans still exist, then handling of waste will be a day to day activity. Most of human waste comes from consumption of food items, groceries, sanitation and environmental cleaning, etc. from household to household.

While these are things we cannot do without, improper handling of them is a big cause of pollution over here. When refuse are dumped for a very long time without trashing it away, some of the waste items rotten up and get decayed which in turn catalyses other waste to produce gas emissions with unfavorable smell the environment.

I think a good way to curb this off is to sensitize the communities around on the dangers of keeping their waste for a long time. But that would not be enough, a proper waste management system provided either by the government or community would be an added advantage.

Open burning

This is another pollution source that is even more harmful. Although it temporary because it's only for a short period of time. But open burning of garbage waste and other substances especially when done in places that has proximity to residential area could be very dangerous.

Aside from the gas emissions from burning. Its also safe in the environment where I stay because this place houses more children than adults. There are a lot of small kids that play around everyday just to caught fun. Since you really can't stop the little children from playing with their colleagues, some of them could just do some funny things to themselves with burning flames which could be very harmful to their lives and health as well.

The best solution to this is to totally abstain from open burning. And laying embargo on it is a good way to go about that.

Absence of drainage system

This has been contributing alot to environmental pollution over here. Infact, it's so worse that there is only one drainage (which is the one on the highway) in the whole of here as big as the town is. There is no drainage that is linking each other from streets to streets neither is there any drainage in any street at all. At least from how far I've walked through this environment, I have seen none.

The implications of this comes mostly during rainy season which we're approaching very soon. Alot of remnant water from the down pour deposits on the road of the street for a long time. And since there is no drainage for the water to flow away, it causes water stagnation which in turn pollutes the community and causes mosquitoes as well.

While the pollution may not be life threatening, mosquitoes is. Because it is the major source of malaria which is a very deadly disease to human life and living.

The best and easiest solution to this construct enough drainage systems that will serve the entire community.

While all of these may be a minor source of pollution, they matter alot. Here is my entry to this week's edition. Thanks for reading through.
