I haven't been surfing the internet as much as I used to, probably because I don't have much business there these days. But anytime I come online, I always see different stories on my FYP, some true and some fake. Sometimes you see a trend and you just ask yourself, when did we get to this point? One thing I know is that shocking things will keep happening. Sometimes, even before news stations carry the story, the internet is already on fire. 😁
When it comes to trending news in Nigeria, there is so much to talk about. Is it the corps members who were kidnapped while travelling? Honestly, that is so sad . Or the news about counterfeit products, including things we use in our homes every day? I keep asking myself, how did we get here? I really wish the government can do something really serious about preventing counterfeit products from entering the market because of our health. Or is it the online drama about relationship issues, where someone's private chats were exposed by a person she called her very close friend? That is really crazy, right? 😂
The list of trending news in my country is endless, but today I want to talk about the Gen Z Nurses controversy. I am sure many people in Nigeria have heard about this story. The issue is all about nursing students who appeared in a viral TikTok video dancing while on duty. The video went viral and they are disciplined by their school authority. The incident involves 14 students, and they are all in their final year, one of the student was expelled, while the 13 other students were suspended. Imagine being in final year and finding yourself in that kind of situation. I honestly can't imagine how they must be feeling right now. As I write this, I'm not sure whether the school has reversed the punishment or if it still stands.

Personally, I understand why the school was upset about the video. Because when you think about the work of medical personnel do, you realize it requires a lot of seriousness and responsibility and they are also dealing with human lives. I don't think dancing and making TikTok videos in a hospital environment while on duty is appropriate at all. What would a patient think if they saw the people who is supposed to take care of them making videos instead of attending to them? However, I also hope the students will be given another chance to learn from their mistakes.
You know, these days many people join TikTok trends and challenges just to entertain others or to get attention. Sometimes people do things without thinking deeply , they do things because they see others doing the same. But the truth is, we don't always know how things will turn out if we do it. The Gen Z Nurses controversy is a good example. Had it been the students thought about the possible outcome, Maybe they might not have made the video in the first place.
This is why I believe we need to be careful about what we do online. Not every trend is worth joining, we should take a moment to think about possible consequences. How will people perceive our actions? Could it affect our education, reputation, or future career?
Sometimes we get carried away with things around us, forgetting that our actions can have consequences that is beyond what we imagine. That is why we need to be careful and think before we act.
What do you think about the whole incident of the Gen Z Nurses, do you think the school was right to take such strict action or should they be forgiven? I would love to know your honest thoughts in the comment below.
