It's better to be selfish sometimes

In life, we need to sacrifice many things for the sake of responsibility, and responsibility acts like a shackle of life, and many times it never allows us to enjoy the life we actually want to. For taking care of various kinds of responsibilities, we end up draining ourselves and forgetting that we also need to enjoy life. I think a middle-class family is enough to show how responsibilities act as a shackle.

Naturally, the financial backup in a middle-class family is not something worth mentioning. The parents sacrifice many things for their children as they know they have the lack of enough financial resources. Parents may want to travel, but if they do so, they can’t save some money for their children’s future. So, they drop the idea of traveling for the sake of their children. When the children start to grow up and understand the situation, they also try to restrict their desire many times because they think such a thing can delay the greater future till when they are capable enough. And most of the time, when they become capable enough, they also become parents and start to think as their parents have done. In that way, they also can’t enjoy life as they want.

I think enjoying life is not fully dependent on it. It’s about mindset. We need to think about ourselves rather than regretting about life in the ending phase. The good thing is that now many can understand it and want to treat themselves better and try to enjoy life. I think it’s ok to be selfish sometimes because we are not robots and we also need to feel what life is like. If we keep chasing something all the time, it will be boring. When, for the last time, I became selfish and tried to treat myself better. I think it’s about a few months ago in 2025.

It was the time I ended my post-graduation, and I knew that after that, many of us may not meet again in life, even if we spend several years together. By my nature, I am quite calculative when it comes to spending, and I usually don’t spend unless it’s worthy even if it’s for food. In fact, for that reason, I rarely visit restaurants. But at the end of last year, I visited a place with my batchmates, where I visited many times. The place was indeed a good place to visit, but I would love to visit new places when I am spending money on it. But for the sake of moments with friends, I visited there even if I visited several times, and visiting there was a little costly also. It was and acted as selfish for me only, and it’s not the end there.

We tasted food from different restaurants. Restaurant foods are quite expensive but delicious to me. Even if I don’t go for it, I felt that I should make an exception this time. It’s not a good thing to think about money all the time. Sometimes it’s good to think about my soul. Even if the restaurant’s food is pricy, it’s good enough to feed my soul. I think I didn’t spend so much money on restaurant food in my entire life as I spent last time. It indeed cost me a good amount of money, but I don’t regret what I have done in that time. In fact, it was something I feel good about, even if I spent too much that time. Enjoyment is something that should not be compared to money.
