When it comes to dealing with humans, things are always done differently- more like it is done with extra attention and intention because humans are built differently. They are the only creatures that dare to want to question their creator. Humans can be very hard to control and asked to do things even when it is for their own good. Most times, they only do these things because they know the truth and accept it, or they know that fighting back won’t do them any good but if they had an opportunity to fight back, they will do that with all that they have got.
For this second edition of the Hivelearners topic, we are asked to share our thoughts on ETHICS AND MORALS - Whether or not they should be considered when making laws. First, let’s understand what ethics and morals mean. ETHICS - means one’s own standards of living. The principles and guidelines you or different people, groups or factors have made you want to stand by. While MORALS - means a personal belief of how something should be done also shaped by different factors. Looking at these two words, they are similar but still different. What they both share in common is the fact that they are both influenced by different factors.
As humans, we all have different ethics and morals by which we live by daily but sometimes we don’t even know them but it’s there. Most times these ethics and morals were adopted by us from others, our culture, and home trainings. And looking at how faulty our society is, it is very easy for anyone to pick up the wrong opinions, beliefs, standards and the likes and that is why is always good to be open to learning. Yes, our opinions, beliefs and principles might not necessarily have negative effects on someone but we should always bear it in mind that there is always room for improvement because we might not always be right.
Having leaders on the other hand has made things a lot easier for us in the sense that, through these leaders, we are able to get a superior standard to work with despite our own standards and principles. Sometimes, these superior standards and principles might seem to be against us but as long as the standards they have given to us is also not causing harm to us, then we are obliged to obey it. Why should we obey? Because they didn’t get there on their own. I believe so much in the Holy Bible and from scriptures we have learnt that there is no power that be that wasn’t ordained by God. You can find that in Romans 13:1 forward.
Having that in mind, one of our responsibilities towards our leaders is to keep praying for them to make better laws and decisions that will be in favor of the general population and not even our personal opinions, ethics and morals because we all have different opinions and beliefs. And most times, we always like to think of our opinions and beliefs as the best but that might not be true. So, in as much as we know that we as humans have our rights towards certain things, we should always remember that the laws are there to guide us to doing the right thing. Yes, it’s possible that our leaders may bring laws that are not fair on us and not even in line with our creator’s will but the only thing we can do is to pray for them and if privileged, talk to them about our concerns.
Your opinion on matters is needed but it mustn’t be taken. Your way of doing things may not be wrong but are you willing to adjust when it’s not fitting in at some point as long as it’s a matter of opinion? Or are you someone that no matter what happens your way of doing things is the best and nothing can change your mind? Same goes with others too. Just the way I’m speaking on this topic now, this is my opinion and in as much as I know that it is a good approach, I can’t force everyone to accept it if they don’t see it as a good approach. We should always be ready to face oppositions and rejection even when we do the right things the way they should be done but we should always be reminded that in the end, the truth will prevail and that is what matters.

As humans, we must be opened to learning from others and not think our opinions matter only. This is why we also need to be considerate of others and not because we feel the way we do things doesn’t harm anyone but sometimes, we should learn to understand others, too. Above all, respecting and praying for our leaders is our duty to do as citizens.
