I’m a Nigerian and all my life, I have never had the opportunity to visit any other country. But then, thanks to technology and the internet, I have had the privilege to visit a lot of places online, know a little about their ways of life, traditions, customs and a lot more. Today, in response to the Hivelearners topic on ”ANOTHER COUNTRY”, I will be sharing with us a part knowledge of another country I admire and would not mind to visit (I’m not sure about relocating there) if the opportunity presents itself.
Growing up, my siblings and I have always been fans of K-dramas and I remember we would most times wish we could visit the country one day. Korea (South Korean particularly) is an amazing country filled with so many beautiful and interesting places. Korean is an Asian country and if there is one thing they are known for it will be their movies and of course, BTS. Although some people don’t enjoy their movies, I do and I don’t feel apologetic about it. In most of the movies I have seen, just like other Asian countries, they love food! Most especially beef which they most times regard as the most expensive of other proteins.
Koreans are very humble and respectful to their elders and it’s always nice to watch. Whenever they talk with someone who is older than them or of a higher rank than them, they always give them the respect by allowing them sit in the best place where they would normally sit. They go as far as kneeling down until the person asks them to feel comfortable. I’m not sure if they still uphold this culture now but I really admire them when I see them in movies.
Koreans also make use of little sets of plates to dish their food and I find that really cool. Not to even mention their use of chop sticks. They can use that chop sticks to eat literally anything except water, lol. Koreans are known to like Ramyeon a lot. They love spicy food and interestingly, they can even eat those spicy food really fast if they so wish. I have seen how much they like kimchi (fermented vegetables) too.
Korea has a really beautiful landscape and so many natural beauties to behold. From their movies, it’s obvious they care so much about their natural surroundings. Sometimes I just wish to dive into some scenes to steal a good shot of the places they pass through, lol. Korean is a developed country so they take good care of their environments and try to make sure it is as clean as possible.
In all their developments, South Korea still kept their villages in tact to safe guard their culture and traditions. These villages are known as Hanok. I once saw a movie when if you wish to enter a certain village, you will have to be in their traditional attire. I’m not sure if that is how it is now but it goes to show how much they are trying to preserve their rich history and culture.
Koreans are very intentional about their festivals and celebrations just like other Asian countries. They have different festivals and celebrations for different seasons in the year. Every festival has a special thing that makes it stand out for them and most of them have really good memories to them and that makes it special to them. Celebrating these festivals is almost not negotiable for them because it has become a tradition for them that they don’t wish to stop practicing.
Also, one more thing which I will say also makes South Korea stand out, is the DMZ (demilitarized zone). This is the zone that demarcates North Korea from South Korea. It is known to be one of the most heavily militarized borders in the world. And it is a popular tourist destination too. For it to be heavily militarized, most people find it fascinating and want to see for themselves how true it is. That border is a one that neither the North Koreans or South Koreans want to cross on a normal day.
If I had the opportunity, relocating to South Korea will be nice but I’d prefer to go on a visit first and then I’d be sure if I want to really relocate permanently there.
Thanks for reading through. ❤️

I can imagine your interest in South Korea after watching K-dramas. I have also been exposed because of my girls interest in their movies. Their food is delicious for sure - I have eaten what is served here anyway. Their rich culture is certainly interesting and indeed like you said it would be wise to visit first before considering re-locating.
Thank you. 🥰
It is true that we have not been able to travel to any country yet due to our poor conditions, but with the help of the internet, we have seen everything about our favorite country and now we wish to travel to these countries in the future when we earn more money.
