It's a season I will say that is most celebrated all over the world. There are many believes that ranges around the Christmas celebration, some people take it to be the white man culture and so they don't need to embibe it while others use the period to remember the birth of Jesus who is the saviour of the whole world. No matter what anyone believe is, it's fine by me because as our faces and colours are different so we are at heart to so I can't false you to my own will.
Growing up I came from a family that nothing much changes during Christmas season, the highest my Mom does is to take us for December retreats and when we return a times she sends us to see her people and nothing more. Getting to her people, we get to see my uncle's so deep into all the who thing because they buy their children Christmas clothes, at that time I felt somehow bad because as we join them for visitation for people to gift us some money they put on their different clothes thankfully, we have a gift from my grandma to reduce the pressure. All these I may say was partly because our father died so early and my mother's focus was on the school fees of the kids rather than the clothes of Christmas.
Growing up and having more understanding, I began to see that there is no need for so many things which we bulge ourselves with during this Christmas. The mean purpose of Christmas is to remember the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ as agreed by the universal church. Even though the basics wasn't right at first, personally I take it that hence the church uniformly agreed to have a date of celebration there is nothing wrong with it.
Now, how I take this differs in many ways. To me, I see it that is not about my own birthday, it is for Jesus so there is no need promoting myself with wears and all that. As a family, we have agreed on activities that will promote who we are celebrating. Just last weekend we went out for an outreach to a village within the state to tell about the Love of Jesus who we are celebrating. The villages where so happy and desired to the team to stay for more days with them. This is the essence of Christmas for me. Having a discussion with one of my friends she told me it's because my mother didn't train us to believe in buying Christmas clothes and more, and I told her that then I didn't have this understanding so much because there was no proper orientation, but now I am already telling my children what they need to know so they won't grow to struggle with unnecessary things.
We went to visit someone few days because and my son saw the little friend with a toy gun then he began to request for one all in the name of Christmas, there and then I told him that won't get him things that won't help to promote learning for him. I promised to get him more educational and musical instruments. He was happy, but you know as a kid he won't to have what others are having so I promised to buy a car instead of a gun.
This season is a moment of sobber reflection and we have agreed with the family to have series of prayers and plan ahead for the coming year so we won't be faced with the level of difficulties that we faced this year.
The society have already made Christmas celebration to have a form, but we with understanding should not follow them but rather do things the way it should be done. After Christmas comes January and January is over 60 days, so wisdom is profitable in all things. Celebrate with your heads on and don't allow yourself to be negatively influenced by anyone.
I love the last part of this post, they will come and be like January has 60 days😆 😂 how possible?
We shouldn't be carried away with what is happening in the festive season.
The reason for the season shouldn't be taken for granted. Thanks for such a wonderful counsel you shared.
