Exposure goes a long way in determining how a man relates to one thing or the other. Literacy is the process by which I am educated in a particular sphere.Literacy is needed in everything one does, as this will help in modeling how one acts in the face of challenging situations. Literacy truly helps one be a better person; that is to say, it goes ahead to inform how one relates with himself and what he does around him.
In these days and times I see people who think that being a parent just has to do with giving birth to children and providing their daily bread. Sincerely speaking, the kids are crying to have parents who will be available to provide their daily needs; they need parents who will feel their downtime and uptimes, but because many people don't have that adequate literacy of what parenting is all about, they behave any way they feel like. Talking about literacy in relation to cohabiting with other human beings, it is so important; if not, one will hold strong to ideologies that may be hurting other humans.
There are people who are negatively affected because of the kind of society they grow in, which does not accommodate others. They are so selfish in their thinking and feel that they will not do anything that inconveniences them, but living with other humans requires that at times we do things that are not directly about our own pleasure but about seeking the goodness of people around us.Formal education does not in any way inform the way people hurt other people if the person is not ready to have a change of heart.
When a man has the heart to relate with others from different places and that skill of good listening, it will go a long way in impacting the person positively. What we learn in school is mostly geared towards the theory rather than the real-life practice. Making mistakes is a normal thing because no one living is perfect, but it should not be a regular thing. There are also mistakes that are easily avoidable. We keep repeating the same thing because in most cases we fail to learn from our previous failures or even neglect the place of learning from other people's failures. In all, holding on to some cultural practices that are so bad and inhuman, and a man who is so culture-minded will not ever change no matter how exposed he is or how well-read he seems to be.
The most annoying part of this is that most of the inhuman practices are just against the woman folk. Some cultural practices in Igbo land will not allow a woman to have extramarital affairs, but the man can do the same. Some men have placed themselves so high that they treat the woman as a slave, in the sense that they feel too big to assist the woman at home. Most women overwork themselves even when they are sick. Literacy or exposure will help a man understand that a woman came to help him, so the work was not originally hers to do, but she chose to do it so as to help the family grow.
