The internet is one of the biggest invention in today's era and social media build on same is also become the part of our lives. People socialis more over internet then in person socialization. The social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, instagram etc are become the part of our lives and for many activities many of us are depending on same. The people with thousands of followers on those platforms are known as influencers as even one post on social media will reach to the thousands of people following them and they are capable of making the difference or influence the thought process of someone. How many followers you have on social media is now days like a status symbol and people do anything to get them even if they way used is unethical it wrong. Some people circulate the fake news or misinformation which people want to listen and many time it becomes the reason of conflicts. Many people do not hesitate to using controversial language and speak on controversial topics just to get attention. Buying the followers is also one way many people adopt. Why people do so (crazy about the followers) and is this wrong or right to buy followers and clicks?
Before going into the right and wrong, let's understand the reason why people on social media are crazy about the followers? The very first reason is it's like a status symbol in case of individual as well as the group or companies. More the followers you have means more is your reach or more then people trust you. For an example in case of a local business most of us check their existing on social media and if it is present then the immediate check is how many followers they have. If we have to choose between to identities in same business like service provider, we usually check their social median and their fan following and mostly go with the one has more followers as physiologically we believe that he is more trustworthy, we do not investigate if the followers are real or fake. In the digital world, a follower count is often treated like a first impression. Higher the follower means it give impression that the person or the account holder is important, knowledgeable or entertaining. Fake followers is a easy way to get more followers for a new creator or business and instead of taking the hard path they choose the easy path and this tricks work many times.
Many companies and brands looks for the influencers to promote their products and obviously they will choose someone who has good following base to reach the people as many as possible. Many creators buy followers to cross some specific threshold like 10k or 100k which directly increase their chace to come in highlight.
Something it's requirement of certain platforms to unlock some specific features like better monetization program or specific beta tools etc. Some people followers buy for this reason also.
In my opinion its not completely wrong untill it does not harm anyone or cheat. People are free to do as per their wishe. If they wanna take a easy way by spending some money it's their decision. But if it will harm others like fake reviews and ratings then it's a serious issue and should be banned.
