When the Tool Gets Blamed

Maybe I am the only one on this table, but it looks entirely strange when people pour the blame on AI or refers to it as an enemy when people use it to generate all sorts of fake videos and pictures they want. The damage caused is something really and that image can follow someone for weeks, even years. But the machine is not the one suddenly manufacturing those things and causing to disgrace anyone. It is actually we humans that open the app, sit and input the request needed, choose how we want it so sound, check it and share or post it around social media. It still humans that send it around because it will not automatically share it by itself without a command.

And there is this question that always bothers me on how people now shares things around the social media, especially now that WhatsApps has a reshare button without asking where it came from. Something, I see people who are against AI and calling that it should be taken down are the same people watching various contents made by AI on TikTok, Facebook and asking if it is real while even laughing as they wait for response.

Before AI, we have always had tools can be better abused. Our phones can record a private moment. There is a way apps like Photoshop, Corel draw and other apps changes photographs and documents. A printer or photocopying machine can easily print fake documents. These tools are important, no doubt, but it is the person operating it and telling it what to do that we should be facing because they matters too.

At the same time, I feel it is not also right to say we are the problem, and that should still not become an excuse for those companies behind AI to act like they do not care. If all these AI tools can come up with something that can become dangerous to human existence within seconds, then I feel there is more work and responsibilities that should be taken into measure In a way that it detect abuse, barriers are built, protecting of real human identities, and always give a command that it can do that when it does not feel right.

There should also be a strong regulation in check especially when reputation, privacy qnd consent are involved. When someone misuses it, such person should face the law. Companies can also do thier best by limiting access, but they can not give conscience to someone who has made up his mind to use another person's dignity for the sake of entertainment.

And what always troubles me recently is how technology has normalised making a bad intension to look harmless. Some might not be bold enough or have the courage to tarnish someone's image physically or face to face, but just with a prompt and the app, and all of a sudden, the courage Is there to do and undo.

And this is what we are currently dealing with. I am sure the investor of AI did not have bad motives behind it, and AI itself did put that worst habits in us. It just made those habits quicker, affordable and easier to hide end execute. And that alone can be uncomfortable, because handling and fixing such problem has gone far beyond and controlling the machine itself. It requires taking a look at the person who is input those prompt and looking at the screen.
