The Poor Pay The Price

Have you ever wondered why the rich keep getting richer, and the poor also keep getting poorer? Of course, there are various reasons why this is so, but today, we are going to be taking a look at the economic aspect. To start with, the poor don't get poorer because they are lazy, infact, most of the poor masses are the ones involved in hard labour, the government of democracy which is supposed to be of the people, by the people an for the peopl, 'The people' in this regards refers to the low and average income earners of the nation, has somehow turned to be the government of the rich and powerful.

Every day, the government comes up with a different facade of policy, raising the hopes of the common man, only to trample on the same hope that the people have now lost hope in the government and the change they promised before attaining power.

Take the removal of fuel subsidy, for instance, it is common to hear Nigerians say outside iis expensive, and this is literally true, before even considering the cost of whatever activities that takes you outside, the transport cost on its own is draining. Tell me, how does this policy/removal favour the common man, with no means of transport left with no choice but to paythe expensive transport cost, or the common man who rides a bus or motorcycle as a source of livelihood, the margin between the increase is sure targetted at making life unbearable for the common citizens, while the rich keep looting more amd more everyday from same oil money.

We keep watching on the news how the government is working on infrastructure or another, but let's tell ourselves the truth, isn't it easy to differentiate the rich man's area and the poor man's area, take lagos, Nigeria for instance, every one knows the island is for the rich and mainland for the poor, so what policy makes us equal and undifferentiable? When is the needed change going to start changing?

I myself recently had a hit from the same, every day. Lots of millions are being quoted as spent on electricity, yet the country's power grid still fails, and guess what, the rich aren't affected. So tell me, how come the same energy isn't distributed to the masses to keep enjoying an uninterrupted power supply?

And don't even get me started on education. While the poor are stuck with underfunded public schools, where the government claims to have spent billions in, the rich send their kids to universities abroad, theyare more exposed and their generational wealth keeps skyrocketting as they keep getting better opportunities, while the cycle of poverty of the common man continues.

So you see, the government of the people, by the people, and for the people has somehow transformed into a government of the rich, by the powerful, and for the wealthy.

We need a solution, and trust me, it's not even about changing government, because the more the new government, the more things remain the same. I believe our government should bring up policies that promote economic inclusion for all, regardless of class, and also empower the poor with skills and opportunities. We are overdue for that needed change.
