Silenced: The Risks of Whistle-blowing

Whistle-blowing can be likened to having the freedom of speech, but the same freedom is not guaranteed after the speech. In a country where the leadership is infiltrated with corrupt leaders, even in smaller organizations, and the society around us, most people have lost their conscience on doing the right thing, and wouldn't stop at any length to have what they want, even if someone else gets hurt. That is just how crazy and tragic our society has turned.

I'm someone who gets terribly worried and uncomfortable when I see bad things happening, even from a very young age, when things are not done the right way, or people try to do bad things and call it smart, I'm always the one to rat them out. And ofcourse, this often end up in me making more enemies than friends, which i'm not even bothered about, but as i got older with wwwisdom, i've come to realize that for the sake of safety of myself and loved ones, some things are better left unsaid, because, like I stated earlier, our leadership is infiltrted with more bad leaders than the good ones, so reporting a crime or whistle-blowing most times feels like you are offering yourself as a sacrificial lamb. This very reason is why bad people keep getting away with their atrocities, and the good people have lost hope in change, some even joining the bad ones, because justice has since long lost its hold.

It's painful to see the people who expose bad and criminal activities end up losing their lives for the sake of their very good act, and yes i've also experience a friend's dad lose his life because of whistle-blowing, he had exposed a very big and well-known company he worked with, after realizing that the food they packaged to the their customers also had a poisonous substance as one of their ingredients, in the name of preservative, he had tendered a complain for years but they ignored him, left with no choice, he had to call them out on socia media with a video evidence to his claim, guess what, he was assasinated the following week and they covered it up as a car accident.

His act was good, as the exposed company later went bankcruptnand shut down due to the exposure, but his wife was left a widow, and his children fatherless, his family paid the price, his life, now tell me, how many of us are bold enough to want to face same circumstance, though his good intention saved many lives, but how many of us are ready to sacrifice ourselves as heroes.

Also knowing that not all cases end up being solved, would we still want to risk our lives and that of our loved ones, certainly not me, I'll rather overlook, but if we lived in a better country where law and order is strictly followed and there are better leaders up there, not the greedy and corrupt ones, whistle-blowing shouldn't be a problem then.

Whistle blowing is as risky as someone committing a crime especially if it's involving high profile personalities, that's why there should be laws guiding every whistle blowers to protect them from the danger
