He choosed Peace

Politics is one subject matter I don't really like to talk or write about, for very good reasons, and mostly because this subject is usually a sensitive one, and oftentimes, ends up on the negative side of the fence. Well, the current hive learners' writing edition leaves me with no choice but to pen my opinion on the current topic, the most memorable president of my nation.

Becoming aware, and getting to know about democracy and why we elect our presidents, one thing is common for sure, we Nigerians have never in history had a better president that the most population were pleased with. There would always be something to complain about, and the hope for change, unfortunately, after several terms and tenure, rather than finally be faced with the needed change, it seemed we moved from fry pan to fire, that the old government we were thought were worst now seem like angels compared to the new elected Ind current ones. Sadly, this is our reality.

I don't think any of the preidents holds a special place in my heart for them to be memorable, still, one president most citizens regret was given a short time to rule, taken for granted, and overthrown by the same party that is currently governing us. President Goodluck Jonathan. When you hear citizens talking about his time in office, it is often like a good old days story, even though it is not too many decades ago, he ruled Nigeria.

During his tenure, the cost of living was bearable, from food, clothing, and transportation costs, etc. The subsidy law was also active then, but there was a rising issue of insecurity in different states of the country, though there were conspiracies that these terrorist groups were heavily funded by opppositions so Nigerians would turn their back on him during the election.

Maybe we did, maybe not, as we hardly have a faira d free election system, he lost the election to the opposing party, and the insecurity issues that were used to attack him sadly, have not been solved to date even after several more elections. Another remarkable action he took was conceding to the election result without a need for a fight despite knowing how dirty the election could be rigged, he chose to leave and live in Peace with his family.

There is also a motivational story he likes telling the ones as a form of motivation to never give up, he told stories of how there was a time in his life he didn't have shoes to put on, but somehow still ended as the president, he was indeed a peaceful man.

We can't talk about ex president Goodluck Jonathan and not talk about the role his wife played during his tenure. You can't be a true Nigerian that period and not have seen some of her trendy and edited funny clips, she indeed was like a spice to the internet as Nigerins gradually embraced social media then.

The way he also got into power is another interesting story, as he had to take over as the acting president from being the vice president, and eventually he became the president when our former president Buhari died in office. Most Nigerians are religious and call it a miracle/testimony, not following the hectic procedures before becoming president, his luck shone.

I remember parents naming their babies after him, Goodluck, that period, so they would be that lucky someday. So, indeed, Goodluck Jonathan is the memorable president.
