This time, I made a three-step gown for my neighbor's soon-to-be one-year-old daughter, since I moved to my new apartment, somehow my sewing skills have made me friends than I anticipated, and this time, my neighbor, the mother of my little soon to be one-year-old friend brought a yard of this soft crepe fabric and wondered if she could make anything useful out of it for her daughter, instead of just using the fabric as an head tie.

Sure! I said, and got to work, since making little girls dress is always fun, being creative and easy to make

Materials Used

  • Soft crepe fabric
  • Pink lace trimming
  • Zipper

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by drafting the upper pattern of the dress using a basic body pattern for both the front and back, with a neck width of 2.5 inches and the same for the depth as well. I also sewed a contrasting pink colored lace trimming on the front bodice for a more stylish effect.

  • Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulders after pipping the neckline

  • I also cut out and sewed the belt which will be used to tie a knot bow at the back of the dress.

  • For the lower part of the dress I cut out three strips of fabric with different lengths to form the three steps, Their width is the waist measurement of the gown multiplied by three, then I gathered it back to the original waist measurement.

  • Next, I joined the three steps to the upper bodice

  • Finally, I drafted and cut out the sleeves pattern and used an elastic to gather one inch before its hem before joining them to both sides of the armhole of the dress.
