Creative Sunday | I designed a stunning dress

Happy Sunday dear lovely creators on Hive, I hope you are all having a relaxing Sunday wherever you are, as all work during the work days and no rest during the weekend can take a toll on our bodies. So make sure to take the much-needed rest.

It's another exciting edition of the Hive Learners Creative Sunday, looking forward to reading all your amazing creations, already gone through some though, and today I will be sharing mine as well, yea it's a sewing tutorial of a beautiful dress I designed for a 10-year-old as her birthday present.

I almost forgot to take shots of the finished look of the dress, thank goodness I remembered before she left for home excitedly with her new dress, and I had to improvise, taking these final shots on the car bonnet lol, still beautiful though, don't you think?

I had this leftover ankara dress from a previous project I made, and have been thinking of what better use to make of it until now, I love birthdays and always make sure to gift celebrants around me a birthday outfit as their present, I mean it's my passion to sew, what better way to make use of this talent than giving.

Amaka clocked 10 today, she had notified me earlier and was looking forward to her dress today, which I made available.

Materials Used

  • Ankara fabric
  • Velvet Bias
  • Cotton lining

Cutting And Sewing Process

IMG_20250425_151958_390.jpg

  • I started by drafting the upper part of this dress using a basic body pattern, for both the front and back

IMG_20250425_151916_946.jpg

  • I also drafted the lower part of the dress using a straight skirt pattern.

  • Next, I joined the upper part of the dress to the lower part by the waist

  • Using this velvet bias strip, I marked where I wanted it placed before sewing it on the front part of the dress

  • Next I joined the front and back side of the dress by the side after turning it with their lining respectively

  • For the sleeves, I used a 2 in-one sleeve, a basic and double flared sleeve,

  • Finally, I joined the sleeves to both armholes of the dress and sewed the zipper as well.

Here is the final beautiful look.

She absolutely loves her new dress, and that made my day.

Thank you for reading.❤❤
