Balancing Quantity and Quality: The Future of Sustainable Farming

One basic part of life we can't do without is feeding, and agricultural practices help us in that aspect, as the world evolves with the population of the world increasing drastically, it is a known fact that the infusion of technology and Agriculture has yielded a great impact, mostly increasing the production of food thereby reducing famine, also long hours of hard labour put into farming, has now been reduced, therefore making agriculture more attractive and as an opportunity for the young generation to participate in this oldest practice that has been sustaining mankind.

but in the quest to produce more, sadly the quality of food we eat now has reduced drastically nutrient-wise and is even causing us diseases that were hardly known in the past, no longer does man live long like they used to in the past, and most of the causes can be attributed to the new practices introduced in agriculture,

let's take a look at some pest control methods for instance, do you know that poisonous substances to human health are still usually being used to control pests and insects on the farm, the day I realized Sniper, a well-known harmful substance is the same products farmers spread on their crops to control pest, I was shocked because this is a substance that kills immediately when ingested, though minute quantity might fall on one crop and might not show immediate reactions when these crops are consumed, but the built up and over time consumption of these poison through the food we eat is what leads to strange terminal diseases that ends human lives so early, it's now common to see young boys and girls suffering from kidney issues, it's fair to say that this is one of the numerous causes.

We all know the importance of eating balanced meals with all the available nutrients which are supposed to be contained in a certain proportion in the food we eat, but some genetic modifications which are used to yield increase in the crops, or make them appear too good, also reduce their nutrient, we get attracted to this type of crops more easily, but at the expense of eating less nutrient, one common example is in poultry, ever wonder why locally trained checked taste more delicious than farm trained chickens, though the latter might look bigger and fatter than the other because of the fattening food and medicine improved by the knowledge of science, but the taste difference in both shows the perfect example of nutrient reduction, now compare this example to the different types food you take.

I believe the decline in the nutritional content of our food is a very important issue that needs to be considered by the experts who introduce new farming techniques, yes, we need more quantity of food, but we also need quality nutrients in them, so a balance should be considered when introducing these modern farming practices as it is clear that we must prioritize nutrient density and sustainability in our farming practices.
