We can't talk about the many wonders of human without highlighting our numerous and unique lnguages spread across the world, and to each language, there is usually a unique culture common to the speakers of that said language, so it is common to say that someone that learns th language of another country or tribe can easily get to know more about their culture as well.
There are more benefits of knowing how to speak more than one language, and sometimes I wish I also had that grace. In Nigeria for example, though we have diverse languages, but three tribes are the main identified ones, being Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, as english the general spoken language. Being married to a man that can speak at least two out of the main languages in addition to english and our native language, i have first hand witness what being able to speak others language can benefit us.
Starting from job opportunities, my husband has on several occasion have more hand than others in receiving contracts and job opportunities just because he knows how to speak hausa language, being someone from the southern part of Nigeria. Women don't like their hubby following them to the market, but guess what, I love it when mine does, because that means getting foodstuffs, especially yams, and other foodstuffs sold by the noetherners, I get them cheaper from just understanding or knowing how to communicate with them, and the magic happens. Also, imagine being in a foreign land and a threat is discovered, and the natives are warned in their native language to take cover. What happens to the foreigner thta doesn't understand the language? He or she becomes a victim. So therefore, we can't overemphasize the benefits of understanding and knowing how to speak diverse languages.
Thankfully, we are in the AI era, where one can have other languages translated for us easily through the use of some software, also making communication between two people from different countries or tribes easy, bridging the communication barrier and making education, businesses, and so many other benefits accessible. Also, making the world feel smaller and more interconnected than ever, the ability to speak multiple languages remains an incredibly powerful asset. Of course, this is a blessing to our generation; other than a bad trend, it is like giving your brain a super-powered workout, lol, imagine someone having to constantly switch between different languages; I see my husband do this and it amazes me everytime, I bet his brain becomes more agile, more adept at multitasking, and more flexible in its thinking. So if anyone has the zeal to learn more than one language, by all means, go ahead, there are a lot of benefits you can gain from this than a disadvantage.
Whether it is for your personal growth, career advancement, or just to know and appreciate our diverse culture, and have the joy of connecting with more people around the world, embracing multilingualism is one of the most rewarding adventures one can embark on. It is an investment in oneself and our future.
It's okay to learn languages and it's good to improve yourself as an individual because you don't know where it will help you
