The Fanatic Frenzy.

I would like to remind a lot of people that celebrities are humans like us, and we are the ones who made them what they are today. I doubt if many people still remember their worth around these so-called celebrities because if we really did, we wouldn't be behaving like kids who were given sweets at the sight of a celebrity.

I understand that they are stars, we love what they are doing, meeting them can bring opportunities, but that doesn't change the fact that they are humans as well.

It annoys me a lot when I see people become unreasonable at the sight of celebrities, and sometimes, I wish I could scold them because why would you lose respect for yourself because of another human? It seems we don't know that it's the way we present ourselves that these people treat us.

A few people who don't understand me think it's pride because regardless of who you are, I will walk past you as long as I am not there for you and vice versa. It's not like I don't like or appreciate these guys. I actually do, but you won't see me become a fool in their presence.

I can promote you online, stream your movie or music, go to the cinema to show my support, or even sing praises of you like I do about Mohammed Salah, but I won't see you and turn to bingo.

I live in an environment where actors come and shoot movies a lot of the time. I can count over 30 big names I have seen at a very close distance, and it does not move me a bit. I still saw them last weekend and passed, there is more respect in that than in constituting a nuisance.

Sometimes in 2023, while I was going about my farm work, a movie producer working in my neighbourhood admired my height and even offered me a military role in the movie he was shooting. He clearly saw that I wasn't interested even before I said no, and he started mentioning big names on the set just to change my mind, and my response was still no. If I had taken the offer, it would have been because I wanted it, not because the big shots were involved.

These guys are people like us, and a good number of them want to be treated like every other person, but their fans wouldn't just allow that to happen.

A footballer once mentioned how he always disguised himself just to visit a regular beach in the city he grew up in. If he hadn't done that, he would end up taking pictures and signing autographs throughout his stay at the beach, which wouldn't be fun to him. It's not like he doesn't appreciate them, but sometimes he wants to live a normal life like everyone.

During the time when Psquare did their Africa tour, I saw videos of ladies aggressively trying to get on stage, and they were roughly handled by the musicians bouncers. Psquared weren't concerned and just did their thing on stage, and truly, why should they be concerned?

As a fan, you can just enjoy their performance from the fan space, share videos about the event, and be happy, but no, people will go extreme all in the name of being a fan.

Another instance was when a musician told some fans who came to camp outside his house to leave because he needed some privacy as well. Many of these celebrities don't feel comfortable with these things, and I am not surprised when they become aggressive while trying to have some privacy. Many of them go about with bouncers because we won't let them rest, and when we are being treated badly by the bouncers, we start saying shitty things about the celebrity.

If you, as a fan, have respected yourself, you won't have to face any form of embarrassment while showing appreciation or expressing your love for a celebrity. On instances when I felt like saying hello to a celebrity I admire a lot and was opportune to meet, all I did was wave from a distance. There was a particular man I did that to, and being a comedian, he even cracked short jokes that made me laugh. My approach was respectful, and he reciprocated it.

With my experience, I have seen and understand how these celebrities love to be approached. Honestly, they do not bite, and we are the ones who have made many of them aggressive because sometimes that's the only way they can protect themselves from aggressive fans.

There are those celebrities who are just naturally aggressive, rude, and proud. They feel like a god, but I won't mention names before their fans, who have been disrespected by their favourite, come for my head.

I strongly believe that if you respect yourself as a fan and mind your business regularly, those rude celebrities wouldn't have a chance to disrespect you, and when they do, you can talk back because you didn't behave like a bingo around them initially.

In conclusion, there is a saying that respect is reciprocal, and we just need to treat these celebrities how we want to be treated. Irrespective of what we think of them, always remember that they are humans like you.

Indeed, how we present ourselves determine how others see and address us. They are just human like us, I believe if there should be a balance to this, between the celebrity and the fans..
