I have thought about the possibility of the internet shutting down someday, and I think it might be the most shocking thing the human race would experience. Since the internet came, almost everything we do today has a connection with it, and it just makes things, including our lives, a lot easier.
Thanks to the internet, we can connect with every part of the world from the comfort of our rooms. We can study or even conduct research without stepping into a library, and so many things we can think of today have ties with the internet. Without it, many companies or organizations wouldn’t be here to begin with, and if it disappears, millions of people will lose their jobs. We will be back to our old lives where many people, especially in this part of the world, survived with their skills.
As much as I do not see the internet crashing, I believe that unexpected things happen sometimes. So, in response to the HL post about what skill we can fall back on if the internet isn’t here anymore, cooking is one skill I can rely on if the unexpected happens.
That’s not the only skill I have developed over the years. I can venture into animal farming, and I play drums, but not at a professional level. However, cooking is one thing I can confidently depend on because I have depended on it twice to earn a living.
I chose cooking because it’s very lucrative, and whenever people ask me for business ideas, I tell them to go into something humans can’t do without daily, which is food. It can be selling raw food items, making snacks, or preparing local or international dishes. You can’t regret it as long as you are in the right location and you make good food.
Years ago, I started with hot puff puff in the morning, and the sales were just too good. I already had customers who paid in advance, and I just delivered to them while the snack was still very hot. The trick then was that I used to add pepper, ginger, and onions, which people enjoyed very much.
I went on to add fried yam, potatoes, and bean cakes, and people gave me jobs to make small chops for events, so it was a good business. However, I wanted something bigger and quit when I got a company job then. I didn’t regret quitting because I gathered some sales experience at the new job, but I could have grown bigger if I had stuck to my cooking business since the passion was there.
It all started as a kid. My mom wasn’t eager to teach us because many people believe that male children have no business in the kitchen. But an incident happened, and she didn’t have a choice but to teach us. I learned how to make different types of snacks before graduating to making real food. It’s been close to two decades now, and you can tell how much I have improved so far. It’s not like I know it all; there are so many things I still do not know how to prepare and wouldn’t mind learning since it’s what I choose to live on if the internet is gone.
I would love to learn lots of international dishes so that I can satisfy not just customers in my locality. It would be so much fun for me, and I can guarantee making lots of profit in the end.
Advertising my service might be challenging because, without the internet, I would have to spend so much money on banners and flyers, and surely, it won’t cover as much ground as using the internet. I would have to continue with doing my adverts from time to time, the old ways.
But seriously, I really don’t want to see the internet crashing or having any issues whatsoever. If it does, there is nothing I can do about it, but I love the ease and comfort we are all enjoying today.

Yeah, something that humans can't do a day without.
Food business is a lively one as long as people are aware that you make food. There's a lady close to my house that recently started to add cooked beans to her fries, I'm still in shock at how people buy, and perch at a corner to eat on the spot. People are always hungry oh😅
People are always eating and they will patronize you as long as you are doing what they like. The business is very lucrative and without the Internet, it will still thrive.
Beans on fries? Nigerians don't joke with food truly. 😂
I go patronize you oo, especially with those your lovely recipes 😁
The internet is unpredictable so having a practical skill that would fetch in some income is good.
