Disciplining children is an important aspect of parenting, and it is crucial to approach it thoughtfully with good intentions. While every parent has their own beliefs and experiences that shape their approach, it's vital to consider the most effective methods for teaching children about right and wrong. Pick and use the one that's suitable for you.
Discipline isn't just about punishment; it's about teaching the children self-control and the goal should be to instill values, manners, courtesy, and principles that guide their behavior as they grow. When considering discipline, think about how you can help your child learn from their mistakes, rather than simply punishing them for wrongdoing.
I am a no-nonsense parent, I punish my kids whenever they do something bad and later call them to order about what they did wrong in a calm discussion after the incident; this provides an opportunity for them to understand the ramifications of their actions. It helps to express my feelings, and how their actions impacted me as a mother and encourage them to reflect on how they would feel if they were found in a similar situation.
Instead of physical punishment, I can put them in confinement as in they must not leave their rooms for some hours. For example, I use homework, reading, or doing house chores to punish the child, you know children don't when they miss leisure activities? This method helps my kids to see the direct relationship between their actions and the consequences, and the lesson I want them to learn is clear
I have rules in my house, whenever they arrive from school, there are certain rules they must obey, or else they face the consequences for breaking them. I ensure that these rules are consistently enforced. We usually praise them for being a good child. By doing this, they are encouraged to continue making us proud.
Do you use physical punishment or do you go about it some other way?
It's important to consider the emotional impact of various disciplinary methods. While some may argue that physical punishment was effective in their upbringing then, however, research suggests that it can lead to feelings of fear and resentment rather than understanding. Instead of punishing, we should focus on teaching empathy and emotional intelligence, which are crucial for their development and future relationships.
Children learn by watching their parents. It is high time we need to demonstrate the behavior we wish to see in them. Be open to adjusting our methods as the children grow and their needs change. What works for a toddler may not be effective for a teenager. Every age has its unique way of discipline and it should start right from the infant age till they are grown.
As we all know parenting is challenging, as in it is not easy to train up a child but a lot of things can be put in place. For example, seeking support can be beneficial. Join parenting groups, consult educational materials, or consider professional guidance when necessary. Oftentimes, sharing experiences with others can reinforce successful strategies and approaches to training a child.
While my personal experiences and beliefs about the discipline may be different from yours, itβs essential to focus on teaching rather than simply punishing. A combination of communication, consequences, positive appreciation, and leading by example can create a nurturing environment that fosters learning and growth. This objective is to help children understand their actions and dissuade them from doing them in the future.

It is better to discipline a child with love rather than beating them
Yes, sis
Well said.
We all have different takes on this.
During our time, most of our parents weren't into forcing children to read as punishment. It's the physical punishment that comes after one violates the rule of studying. I'm reminiscing and laughing π
