Childhood delight: peanut candy

(edited)

Hello everyone, welcome you all to another edition of HiveLearners creative Sunday. For today creative day, I decided make one of our childhood snacks known as peanut candy and locally called sisi pelebe here in my home country.

This snacks happens to be one of my best during those days and I never get tired of munching it. Whenever we are given our lunch money I must save out of it so I can buy became the woman that sells opens her shop only by 10am which we are already in school by them. Despite the fact it is prepared with sugar, one thing I love about it is that it is not over sweetened due to the fact the sugar has been caramelized already. I also do think this is a save snack for vegans to consume and if am wrong please do correct me thank you.

You need to see the joy written all over my siblings face when I was making this and they could not wait for me to finish. Although it is not commonly gotten like it was all over the place before but we can still get it in some specific locations. It indeed pleased me that my siblings appreciated my effort bringing back old memories with just two ingredients.

So to begin, our groundnut or peanut candy, these were the materials I used:

*Sugar (five table spoons)

  • Toasted Peanut (43.5g)

Materials:
Spoon,pot, knife and a tray.

PROCEDURES.

Firstly, I roughly blended the peanut and you can easily do this with your blender or mortar which ever is available. Ensure it is not blended into a fine texture but a rough blend is just what we would be needing.
After which I set my pot on fire, pour in the sugar and allow to caramelized under low heat. I stirred profusely while on heat too.

After sugar has melted without, I poured in the blended peanut and stirred to incorporate and then bring it down from the fire, poured in a tray and smoothend the surface with a spoon and then with the help of a knife, I cut it out to my desired shape and allowed to dry so as to solidify.

Once it solidifies, it is ready to be Munch on cause you want your snack crunchy.

As seem above, this is the process by which we can make peanut candy (sisi pelebe) at home effortlessly that too with simple kitchen ingredients which is not so difficult to get around our various locations. Hope this also brings back your childhood memories just like it deed brought back mine and let me know also in the comment section if you tasted this candy during your days and what name was it called because I found out it has different names depending on location.

All photos are mine.
