SELF DEFENSE IN A MURDER CASE

Is it self defense a crime ?

To me honestly it shouldn’t be crime if the defense was done genuinely, and before given any judgement a proper investigation should be carried out so as to know, what caused the issue, what led to the crime scene, and why and how the person defended hos or her self by hurting or killing the other person.

Early last year my mum told us a story, now this isn’t just a mere story that she heard from someone she didn’t know, this story was about a cousin of mine, they live in Lagos and they’re well to do, my cousin who is girl fell into a serious trap without what the outcome would be, infact it was a case murder and assault, according to them; they said that there was a girl that lived close to them who had a fiancee in the same area that they lived, so one day the boy was walking passed my cousin and she saw something like a dirt on his head so she told him and also helped him to remove it from his head, while she was doing that, the other girl which was the girlfriend to man saw the scene from her and got angry with the boy and my cousin, she probably taught they had something together of which nothing like that was going on.

So the other girl had some grudges over cousin and started keeping malice with her, so from what we heard again my cousin had gone to plead with her and told the girl that she didn’t mean for the girl to get upset by what she did, so the other girl told her there was no issue, that she has forgiven her and moved on, but after sometime people some neighbors around begin to notice that she was always bring out a particular knife to sharpen, so they even asked her if she wanted to butcher any meat, she said yes and that her dad called her from the village and told her that he was going to bring meat for her and that’s why she decided to sharpen the knife.

Long story short, one sunday when people in the neighborhood had gone to church, everywhere was quiet but my cousin was home alone, this other girl came into their home with the already sharpened knife and picked up a fight with cousin, they fought for a while, the girl brought out the knife wanted to use it on my cousin, but unfortunately for her my cousin overpowered her, took the knife and gave her a deep cut, she was rushed to the hospital but later died after two days, my cousin’s family knowing that their daughter had murdered someone in self defense took off over night and traveled back home to Warri, because according to them the girls family wanted to revenge, but after a while my cousin’s went back to lagos and involved the police and they were asked to pay the sum of 3million to the girl’s family.

In this case, forget the fact that my own cousin was involved even if it was to be any other person, the girl was trying to defend herself, the other girl really came with the motive of killing, she got what she deserved although it wasn’t intentional.
