I think in a way this captured some views I share on the topic. Firstly, if it's about posts, I don't think there's privacy since it's in a public space where everyone can access. The issue is when they want access to personal stuff. And yes, social media reveals a lot than might be thought of. If doing so would help dictate some tendencies that could be tackled or addressed, it's a defence for this I'll say. As you also mentioned, it could be a routine check not constant surveillance.
