Learning and Unlearning: A Necessary Path

One of the necessary things for any human to know and be intentional about as we live out our lives on earth is the need to keep learning. As it is said, learning never ends. I tend to agree with that. Every day we live is an opportunity to learn something. It could be something entirely new or something we knew but we are adding a measure of knowledge to it. Safe to say, every day’s life and experience is a privilege to learn. This makes for some of the striking differences we see in our world today amongst people.

Saying that we need to learn alone isn't quite complete or balanced. There's a thing as unlearning. While we could strive to learn; adding knowledge and/or experience, there's also a need to unlearn; subtracting knowledge we already have. It's a needed balance. This makes for maybe even a higher level of contrast and difference we see amongst people in our world. Unlearning opens an individual to more possible knowledge and experience. What we know can be wrong and unlearning unravels that.

I've seen the need to learn things, and also the need to unlearn some things. Some of these things can be subconsciously learnt, and putting them off can be a big deal. One thing I consider very resourceful and helpful, which I'm learning is to do things bit by bit; to follow things at a realistic pace. When I set a goal, I don't want to choke myself with it. I'm learning that there's wisdom in setting it into little portions that will make me see the reality of achieving it, hence increasing my chances. Rather than struggling with an overload.

The idea about this was since late last year and it seems to be something to go with. I've seen how trying to get plenty of things done has caused little to nothing to get done, due to reasons like being overwhelming or lingering for over an extended time than supposed or expected. Mostly because there's a lot to achieve within a limited period. It seems like one of the ways we humans make ourselves busy without really being productive. I'm learning that being busy might not really mean that and ultimately being productive.

I'm also learning something important as regards humans relationship or interactions. Relationships are one of the most valuable assets a person can have and that says a lot about humanity. I see the need to give people the benefit of the doubt in some kind of situations. From the things I've seen and learnt in life, it's not always right to conclude a matter without giving the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes, I would tell my friends, let's give the benefit of the doubt to a person on a matter before concluding. Not every kind of situation though.

So, I'm unlearning overwhelming myself with several things at a time, which don't become productive in the end. Or trying to finish a heavy task within a short placed time because others possibly do it that way. I unlearned the need to do that and learnt to do otherwise. The need to be unnecessarily busy is something I'm unlearning too. Also, to always consider that things can be wrong and allow proving that right or wrong when it pertains to human interactions.

It takes a high level of self awareness and discipline over the mind, to be able to remain composed while chasing a goal. Achieving an objective is a systematic process but sometimes, we get so excited about it that we try to take on everything at the same time, in so doing, we end up doing less or nothing.

That's it. That why it was needful for me to consider otherwise.
Thank you.
