If you really look deep into how life works, you'd realize that emergencies erupts every single day and 9 times out of ten they usually happen in places where medical professionals are not always available or even close by. You might not be a first hand witness to scenarios like this and I don't mean to sound like a bearer of bad news but somewhere out there, there's someone involved in natural disaster or caught up in an accident in the middle of nowhere with their survival relying heavily on the ability of uninjured person close by in carrying out first aid treatment on the victims.
According to Meta AI First aid is : The immediate care given to someone who is injured or ill. It's usually provided by a non-medical person, like a friend, family member, or coworker, until medical professionals arrive or the person receives further treatment. From this definitely alone it is important to note that every person should at the very least learn the very basics of first aid treatment in case an emergency pops up and immediate attention is required before the arrival of doctor or nurse. It might not sound like much by a few minutes of brief positive reaction is more than enough to save a life from absolute disaster.
A lot of people around the world the necessary knowledge to offer these types of treatment arise which ends up producing no results even when they are the first respondents to the scene of an accident. In most cases their intentions are pure and they also try to help but because their limited/no knowledge about how to respond positively to save lives, they end up causing more harm than good resulting to lose of lives. This is probably one of the reasons the casualty rate is usually on the high side as proper first aid services are not offered to the victims.
Personally I also found myself within this category of individuals with poor first aid skills and after being faced with a personal encounter which completely rocked my world, I volunteered to become a part time member of the Red Cross Society just barely over a week ago. I am still pretty new to a lot of things but I am still learning and I can confidently say there has been a massive improvement between who I was days ago and my current person. I now know how to perform CPR on someone struggling with cardiac arrest and they pass out ( though I am not that good, I can atleast attend to them before handing them over to a professional), helping someone who fainted back in the feet, clean wounds and treat minor burns. Like I said earlier I am still obviously a learner in this field but if I continue with my lessons I am sure I will definitely be of use to my family and the general society at large.
We should not leave this job to just the professional medical practitioners as we can never predict what might happen next and might just find ourselves in a society where one needs to perform emergency treatment on people and these skills will come in handy at that. A person who learns first aid treatment not puts himself at the helm of safety but also has the power to save lives as well..
Thank you.
Yeah, I agree, irrespective of your profession, we all need first aid knowledge.
I think it should be taught in school both primary, secondary and even high institution
