Is trading privacy worth it?
In this era world where insecurity has been rampant, people can no longer walk fearless ,kindness now seems like a prey ,trust has been lost among humans, even while on one's bed, we sleep with caution and fear, our safety is no more guaranteed, people lose their life everyday because of insecurity especially here in Nigeria. Life now looks like a toy that can be taken anytime, anywhere not because one committed a crime,not because one deserve to die but because we found ourselves in this situation of the world.Having knowing all this, The government now throw out a proposal of people giving out their privacy for the sake of protection, meaning they will have access to everyone's life.
Even when I know that this act of invading privacy will definitely increase safety as the government will now have access to monitor one's call, movement and all, any signs of suspicious will be monitored thoroughly and suspect will be caught before the deed ,it will definitely reduce crime rate as well but then it might sound good to earn security but it's not as simple as that trading our privacy.
I think our human right should never be traded,They are the things that makes us significant in the country we are which right to privacy is part of the rights. What do we now enjoy as a citizen,if we cannot live freely ,when all our lives are loved under uncomfortability. Not even this government of ours that will still complain they don't do well like the citizens wanted and expected they are likely to abuse such power to access one's life . We wanted to be free that's why we fought for independent, if we just trade our privacy then then independent will be dragged in the mud.
I believe there are many other positive ways to ensure the citizens safety apart from gaining access to everyone's privacy.. As safety is part of our right as a citizen so is our right to privacy,one shouldn't come at the expense of another.
