We can't blame only the teachers for the unseriousness of the students

It sounds crazy when parents complain that their children are dull, can't read, or are not impressed with their performance, and if you monitor the child, you will realize the only time he carries his book is when he is in school.

Most of the students don't open their bag the moment they get home, some parents also don't give their children time to read, they send them on an errand and some even let their child hawk then at the end, you blame the teacher...

When I was in secondary school, there was this boy who took the first position throughout the whole 3 years in ss1 to ss3 and he was the talk of the school, he would represent us when we had quiz competitions with other schools and so on... It was not until our last year in secondary school that I learned that his father was a strict man, after the school classes, he still attended extra lessons and he had no freedom to play around unlike students like me who once I got home, I drop my bag, change my school, eat and dash to the playing field to play ball, no extra lesson.

How unfair would it be to compare me and the most brilliant boy in the class? cos he was dedicated to his studies willingly or not while I was not.

source

All the teachers loved him as he was good in all the subjects and even we the students would ask him to explain some assignments, during physics class half of the class, felt bored and sleepy, this boy didn't feel sleepy and he actually enjoyed the class, how funny that is to me lol.

The duty of a teacher is to teach, and pass knowledge but they can not enforce it, the student must be willing to learn as well and our parents also have a big role to play regarding this matter... As the teachers do their duty while the children are in school, the parent must also do their own duty when those kids are at home by telling them to pick their books and read... the brilliant ones are those who see reading as a passion and not those who are being forced to read or those forcing themselves to read.

In some cases, it could be the fault of the teacher especially if not a professional teacher or the one who doesn't know the subject he is taking, in the private school sector now, they just employ people without testing how good they are academically because those people are ready to settle for less in term of payment[salary]... So if a teacher who knows nothing is teaching the students, that is the beginning of a blurry future for the kids because he would teach them nothing, he might even skip classes and we all know how student rejoices when their teacher skips classes not knowing it is their future and career they are toying with.

In the end, it is partly the fault of the teachers if students perform poorly, Parent also need to share in the blame because the child spends more time with them.

I have the utmost respect for the teaching profession. Whilst its true to say there are some poor teachers, as there poor employees in any profession, I think its truer to say there are more poor parents, or at least lazy parents who do nothing more than send their kids to school and expect them to learn everything and pass exams.
Success comes with effort, and kids have got to have home support and additional time to practise and learn skills to realise their full potential. In most cases, its parents that fail their children rather than schools.
Thought provoking and well written post.
Best wishes :-)

Most children don't open their books when they are at home. All learning ends in school, and yeah, the parents are to be blamed for that. Sadly, the teachers get the blame, and some parents even change their child's school because of this.

thanks!

That's right. The effort of students creates a difference among students and I think teachers can only provide the knowledge and guidance but it depends on the student if s/he will follow it or not. So it's not the fault of teachers.

most parents dont know this, some awareness needs to be spread so they can know what they are doing wrong and stop putting the blame on teachers

Teachers are really trying but there is a limit they can do to someone else’s child so it is the duty of the parents to make sure that their child stands firm
Even though they won’t be the ones to teach such child in class, they need to support and it will surely boost the growth of the children

it is a collaboration, when teachers try their best in school, parents must also make sure the children practice what they were being taught in the school at home...
