May we not have a reason to say Had I Known
because such was my case a few years ago when I found it difficult to gain admission into university.
Back in 2011, when I graduated from secondary school, I made one silly mistake, which was telling myself I needed to rest for a year before I pursue any other academic-related stuff.
I attended a public school, and in our department, only one student passed mathematics, and that boy was the best student in the school. While my friends were busy registering for GCE and NECO, I did nothing, and my close friends tried to convince me to do the same thing, but I was unbothered. I was adamant that I needed to rest for a bit before continuing with my academics.
If time could reverse, I would change my decision... I said I wanted to rest, but then even the rest didn't happen because barely 2 months after secondary school was when I started working...
After working for three years, I decided to give school a try again, so I sat down for my GCE, but I failed maths again. It was the weapon fashioned against me. I did Neco, which I passed, and that was when JAMB started its own. I became a regular customer at the JAMB center, and with every passing year, my score gets lower.
I wasted 9 years of my life working for others with nothing to boast of. My close friends who pursued their academic career back then finished around 2016, while I was stuck with a job with no future, which is a result of my procrastination.
At some point, I gave up on school until I decided again to give it a try for the last time in 2021. I registered for WAEC again and had to write the WAEC exam with my nephew. Fortunately, I passed the WAEC in flying colors, and the main reason for doing the WAEC is to boost my points since both JAMB and WAEC scores are what are being calculated now.
I registered for a Jamb lesson too, but again, Jamb jammed me. My Jamb score was 198, damn, I didn't even hit the cut-off mark, so my dream of pursuing medicine was ruined again, and yeah that was the last time, I was done! But then I was introduced to per time class, which I decided to go and that is where I am currently.
All because of my mistake of postponing what needed to be done, as at 2011, my brain was still fresh and hot, my only problem then was mathematics, I was good in other subjects, If I had done the GCE with my friends back then, I would have also gained admission during their time and graduated way early but I have no regret cos life isn't that bad right now!.

It is quite a hard One, after 9 years all as a result of Gap Year... Honestly, I'm actually speechless after reading your article.. it is not easy at all but I thank God for where you are today...
Thanks man. There is a saying that we can only be delayed; we will eventually get to our destination.
Yes, sure.
When we fix our mind to do something, let's not allow any distraction because if you do not do as planned, you may never have the opportunity to do.iy again.
so right, That silly mistake cost me a lot of years.
Omo, sometimes this gap year of a time might seem like the wrong decision to make, but then not in every situation, though. For years, I have known that feeling of trying to take a little rest for furthering your education, but then it didn't do you any good; rather, it caused more delay.
yea, as for me, it didnt go well, some may have been lucky.
Life can throw us curveballs when we least expected it! But there's always some wisdom in it, especially when we trust the process. Hadn't you decided to take a rest, you're life track would probably be different from what it is now. Good that you've at least find your way back in the education realm.
yes my story won't have been the same but then it is all good, I will graduate next year, better late than never.
Wow. You went through a lot and this is something many of us face especially when we do not make use of our time well just because we want to rest and settle our heads. I am glad you are in a place already and that's what matters.
The price we pay for procrastination.
Thank God that you don't look like what you've been through. Procrastination can be so expensive sometimes. I believe what helped you was that you didn't procrastinate in other areas of life.
Mathematics was the major problem of so many people, I wasted about 10 years and even more as well, better to go to school when you're younger and vibrant
