The Race for Remote Jobs

Working from home is something many people love to do nowadays, and there are many benefits that come with it. It saves you from transportation costs because you don’t have to commute to the office every day. It also saves you from the stress of heavy traffic, especially for those who live in or travel through places where traffic congestion is a daily struggle. And let us not forget the fact that working from home can save you from the stress of dressing up and rushing out every morning. Your glow is safe.

Aside from these reasons, most people in my country prefer remote jobs because they often pay more than many offline jobs. Since you can work for companies or individuals in other countries, you may have access to opportunities that pay significantly better than what is commonly offered locally.

That is the beauty of remote work, and it explains why so many people are desperate to get one.

Unfortunately, the reality of many offline jobs is different. Someone can be employed for one position, only to discover after resuming that they are expected to perform the duties of three additional roles. Yet, they are still paid for only the position they applied for. More work with little pay is one of the reasons many people eventually quit. Nobody wants to feel enslaved by a job.

Regarding remote work becoming saturated, I think this is something that was bound to happen. Whenever people discover something that offers better opportunities, everyone naturally wants a piece of it. Not everyone will get a remote job, and that is simply the reality.

For those who manage to land one, however, many are happier working remotely than they were in their previous offline jobs.

Remote jobs will probably continue to be competitive because everyone wants a taste of that pie. Unfortunately, there will never be enough opportunities for everyone. Some people will eventually have to return to offline jobs, while others may decide to create businesses and opportunities for themselves.

And landing a remote job isn’t always about being the most skilled person in the room.

There are people who are incredibly talented but never get the opportunity they deserve. At the same time, there are people with limited skills who manage to land well-paying remote jobs because they know someone who opened a door for them.

This is why I believe that while we should work on our skills, we should also pray for grace and opportunity.

Because sometimes, two people can have similar skills, apply for the same opportunity and put in the same amount of effort, yet only one of them gets the chance.

There can never be enough jobs for everyone, whether online or offline. Even offline, many people have had to create opportunities for themselves through transportation, trading, farming, small businesses and countless other forms of work.

At the end of the day, the goal isn’t necessarily to have a remote job.

The goal is to find a way to make a living that gives you dignity, stability and a life you can actually enjoy.

Remote work is one of those ways, but it is certainly not the only way.
