Social media education is a good course that should be introduced in schools
I do not think there is a downside to having social media education as a course in school, in fact, it would be the favorite course of some students.

No one teaches the generation from Gen Z how to use a phone, just let them grab it and you will see the wonders they can perform with it ranging from downloading games, chatting on social apps, and using other features on the phone, it comes so easy to them, you will be surprised to see a 5 years old operating a phone like a pro...
A lot of people use phones and chat on social media all day and night but they do not know some of the risks involved....
Many people suffer from poor eyesight now because they chat on social media in the night in darkness, I mean some people do not like to leave their bulbs on at night, they switch them off and focus on chatting with their phone and this causes eye strain but some do not realize it is too much screen time that causes it.
A lot of us can chat from morning till night, it is fun but it affects us mentally and our eyes, too much screen time means less sleep which affects the brain.

Apart from these effects, there are others that social media education will teach them
Scams and Evil: A lot of scams happen online, it is easier to scam people online than in the physical world. Those who just started using social media are often desperate to have friends and this could lead to them falling into the wrong hands.
A recent story I heard was about a young lady who visited a man she met on Facebook unknowingly to her, the man was a cannibal and a ritualist, to cut the story short, he slaughtered the woman and stored the meat in a pot, and the lady informed someone where and who she was going to meet so when the person didn't see her, she told the others and they informed the police, her line was tracked to the man's house but unfortunately the deed was already done.
So Social media education will teach people not to trust people they meet online easily.
Addiction: The addiction is real, even I am addicted and it is not about because I work online, I became addicted way back when I started on the 2go app, I am always jumping from one group to the other, so lessons on how to avoid getting addicted like limiting screen time could be helpful to those who really do not want to be an addict.
Seclusion: You start losing interest in people around you, when you get addicted to the online world, and you realize how stressful communicating with people offline can be, you can chat online all day without uttering a word, there was a time I didn't speak for good three days, I had to just open my mouth and utter something to be sure my voice is still intact.
These are the things people need to know so they can be prepared for it or find a way around it so they don't get to that level.

I think social media education is needed very much in this generation.
it amazes me how they easily know it but our grand parents find it difficult to understand, it just felt like the new generation inherit the brain to understand it faster
Yah social media education isn't a bad idea but to me the disadvantages are more....n one must be very careful, kids can easily deviate into other things

Generally social to me is like a very big society without law and order, just find your way around you can be anything do whatever you want, withOut getting caught, hackers and scammers understands this so they leverage on those who are vulnerable, now imagine your 10 year old on the internet what do you think he will be look out for there? Remember its a free society with no law and order, so even if you gave him or her a task to perform he can deviate and go somewhere else instead, then when you are coming he can minimise the tab to the window he's working on....

How will they misuse it? Social media education is a way to enlighten them about social media, teach them the do's and don't of the platform, and also teach them the advantages and disadvantages. How will that make them misbehave?
