Power is everything

Power is one of the most important things in life.

When you have power, people respect you, they worship you, and your voice becomes authority, even when your words make no sense.

This is why the president of my country keeps saying rubbish, yet some people still see it as a motivational quote when they ought to tie him up and flog him seriously.

Anyway, power is everything.

Money is not power. Although money can take you places and connect you with powerful people, money itself is not power.

If you doubt this, think about a famous Nigerian celebrity who has been accused of sexual assault in the United Kingdom. He has money. He knows people with money and connections. Yet he still has to face the law in the United Kingdom, and not even our president can simply save him from the United Kingdom's legal system.

What does this tell us?

Money is not power.

But power can create money.

I am not entirely sure about this, but I once heard that if a president commits a crime while in office, he cannot simply be arrested or prosecuted until he finishes his tenure. If that is true, then that is what I call power.

And if our president does not have such power, I believe others would have done something about him by now.

To make things even more interesting, he said he was going to win the next election with the same confidence he had when he said he was going to win the last one.

So, our president had power before he became president, and now that he is president, he has become even more powerful.

And people like this are not easy to take down because they possess a kind of power that others cannot easily handle or challenge.

Presidents having veto power to challenge or disagree with new laws and certain decisions is not entirely a bad thing. I mean, someone needs to have the authority to check certain decisions, and who else should have such power if not the president of the country, the person entrusted with governing the affairs of the nation?

But then again, too much power in the hands of one person can also be dangerous.

I sometimes feel there is more to Nigeria's power system than the average citizen knows.

I believe there are people who operate behind the scenes, people popularly referred to as "cabals," who may influence the government through the president in my country...

For a long time, I believed that the president was simply a puppet and that the real people in control were the people behind him.

That was my thinking until the current president came along.

Now, I honestly do not think there is anyone controlling this man.
