We humans have become prisoners of our phones. There is hardly anything we can do without touching our phones. Our phone is the last thing we check before sleeping, and the first thing most of us pick up immediately after we wake up.

Some people do not want to admit it, but the truth is that we are addicted to our phones. We all have different reasons for this addiction, yet most of us are addicted in one way or another.
I am addicted because I love chatting, I prefer texting to calling or talking, and my phone has become my favorite way to express myself. I wouldn't say I became addicted because of work, because I was already on my phone 24/7 even before I knew what blockchain and cryptocurrency were all about. Getting into crypto only made the addiction worse. Now it is no longer just about fun, but also about survival.
To be honest, I fear for the next generation, because there is almost no way they can escape becoming addicted to their phones, too. My four month old chid is already drawn to the screens of the TV and phones because that is what he sees his parents doing. By the time he grows older and understands what fun truly is, there is a high chance he will naturally follow the digital path to find his happiness and entertainment.

As much as we cannot deny the advantages of having phones and how they connect us globally, we also cannot ignore how they create distance between physically close people. You can be in the same apartment with someone, yet your mind is far away... You may live together, yet your heart is in another country. The phone has made this possible.
We are already grounded in this digital age. We cannot completely stop using our phones, but we can learn to control how we use them. One boundary we must not cross is during mealtime. Phones should be kept away when it is time to eat because it encourages family bonding.
We are losing the family bonding in this new age. I remember when I was growing up, my mum would serve our food, and we would all carry our plates and eat together in the parlor, but things are different now. Today, once you've been served, you disappear into your room, watching a movie or texting someone while eating, without paying attention to the other members of the family... This is how far we have gone with phone addiction.
Phones should be banned during prayers too, because that is a sacred time to connect with our Creator, and using a phone at that moment becomes a hindrance.
