Paying Taxes, but seeing no change: Citizens deserves better!

Tax is a mandatory money charge imposed on the citizens by the government to help in the development of the country, the idea behind it was good but in my opinion, the funds are not being used well in my country which causes the frustration of the taxpayers.

Imagine a country with good roads, 24/7 electricity, good security, good and reliable hospitals, and other infrastructure. Who would complain about paying tax? who would complain if there is tight security and no fear of being robbed at gunpoint when police and other forces are around to protect us but the government has failed us regarding all these... No good roads and you can't trust government hospitals when it comes to emergency or good care, not to talk of the disgruntled workers you will meet there, so rude as if the government is not paying them.

Here in Nigeria, citizens can evade some taxes, especially those of us who do not work offline. There is no direct way for the government to tax our earnings, but this does not mean we do not pay tax at all, recently they figured out a way to tax us from our bank transactions, they deduct 50 naira from our money if we transact above 10 000 Naira, I just imagine how much they are making daily from that based on millions of transactions done by the citizens. There are other ways they tax citizens that I am not being aware of but I know it is happening!.

Years ago, when I was still working as a teacher, my boss suddenly started removing tax from my salary and it didn't sit well with me because it ruined the round figure I was collecting, I guess it is the same way with others with the fact that the money being deducted from our sweat will only be lavished by our leaders buying expensive cars and houses and having fat bank account all over the states in the country and outside the country.

I do not have a particular amount I pay to the government monthly now aside from the one they deduct from my bank transactions and trust me if there is a way to evade that I will gladly do it!.

There are many ways that the government can make the citizens happy with the tax being paid, one of the ways is constructing good roads in places that lack it, second is making sure there is constant electricity everywhere, in case you have not yet noticed, we have area using constant light and we have some areas that don't have electricity that much and people have already figured out a way to capitalize on that by making the house very expensive in an area with good light, if it were to be that light is everywhere, that won't have been possible for them to do.

Lastly is security... We are not safe in this country, you can sleep a millionaire in the night and wake up a poor man the next day because thieves burgled your shop and looted away goods worth millions of Naira, it happens a lot and this is why many are even scared of investing offline, aside this they can even visit you at home to steal your gadget and withdraw money from your account at gunpoint, this is why many are leaving the country, the level of insecurity is high.

The government can solve this problem by building army barracks and police stations in many places in the country, the fear of the forces will keep thieves away, just like in the area I am currently staying, there is an army barrack there so such things were minimal, I have not heard of a robbery case since 2 years that I have been here neither do I here that a shop was burgled and I believe this is as a result of the armed force around.
