No one can say they have attained the highest level of learning in life because new things happen every day.

Our elders, though full of wisdom, may know less about some things today because the world has changed. The challenges we face now are different from those they experienced in their time.

One example is technology. We often know more than them in this area because it was not something they were exposed to during their era.

Also, certain crises that spread online today are things many of them are not familiar with, because life and communication were very different back then. Even if such things happened, people were often unaware.

Social media is helping us learn a lot, both about what is happening within our country and around the world.

When it comes to learning, one thing I am trying to learn now is how to be my own boss. I have spent years working for others. Some of those experiences I do not regret, but I think it is time to stop depending on others for my income. It is time to learn how to work for myself and earn money without the constant fear of losing a job.

Many people work 9–5 jobs not because they truly love them, but because it is the better option available to them. Not everyone can become a businessman. Some people try to start a business but end up failing and have to return to their 9–5 jobs, while others succeed in their businesses.

Things have also changed now because of the high number of people going into business. On just one street, you might see more than five people selling the same product, which reduces sales for everyone. It was not like this before, but in our era, many people want to run their own business, which makes the market saturated, with more sellers and fewer buyers.

So what I am learning now is how to depend on myself and work for myself to put food on my table.

What I am unlearning is the habit of procrastination. Procrastination wastes time. Two years ago, I planned to register a business with CAC, but I kept postponing it until I eventually forgot about it. This year, when the idea came to my mind again, I decided not to delay.

I went to a local government office to ask about registration, and they gave me the contact information for someone outside the office who could help me with it. When I called and asked for the cost, she said the total would be ₦35,000, which I found expensive because I already knew that registering online costs around ₦20,000.

So I decided to try it myself by visiting the CAC portal. To my surprise, it only cost me ₦21,000 to complete the registration.

Being literate has its advantages, and that knowledge helped me save ₦14,000 on something that was actually simple to do.
