Learning a New Language Is Easier When You Are Young
Children are so lucky. They can easily learn how to speak as many languages as they are exposed to, unlike adults, whose minds are not settled and are often occupied with different things.
The reason why children learn languages faster is that everything is new to them. So, when we say something, even if they do not understand what it means, they somehow get a hint of what we want them to do. From there, slowly and gradually, they catch up with the rest.
I am a Nigerian from the Yoruba tribe, and I will say that our language is one of the easiest to learn. I arrived at this conclusion because most people from other tribes who come to Lagos or mix with my people can speak our language after spending some time with us. However, it is rare to see a Yoruba person speaking Igbo or other languages. We have people who do, but it is not as common as seeing people from other tribes speaking my native language.
I also think that other tribes who learn my language often learn the curse words first. From there, they learn other words, like come, go and other easier words, and gradually, they learn most of our words.
I have tried to learn the Igbo language, but the plan was not successful. I had some Igbo friends as neighbours, and they were the ones trying to teach me their language. I grabbed some words, but as time went on and I stopped learning, I forgot most of them again. I believe that if I were to be in their land, where most people communicate in their language, I would be forced to understand it.
When it comes to learning my language from scratch, I think it would take years to master it. However, there are some factors that would contribute to how long it would take.
The first on the list is being around people who understand and speak my language. If everyone around me communicates in my language and says no to other languages, the pressure will be there, which will force me to learn it faster. With that kind of pressure, I think I would be good with the language within six months, and within three to four years, I should have mastered everything that needs to be mastered.
I still have an interest in learning other foreign languages, especially Hindi. I am a lover of Bollywood and Telugu movies, and I have even learned some of their words from the films I watch regularly.
I also believe that some languages are harder to learn than others, so it all depends on what we want to learn...

This is a great idea learning when small especially languages seems a bit easier
Learning a language was never an easy thing unless it has similarities your native language. All the language I learned casually.
In case of post-title, I also agree that youth is a good time as in that time memorizing power is good and decreases with time. But somehow in last few years my memorizing power is increasing which suppose to be opposite.
