Be civil when airing your opinion online or bear the consequence alone

There is freedom of speech, but freedom after the speech is not guaranteed. This is why we must be careful when sharing our opinions online, because words are like eggs; once they are dropped, they can't be taken back.

Some people do not think before airing their thoughts online; they feel that they are untouchable online. This is also why we have so many rude comments flying on people's comment boxes online; the rate of cyberbullying is alarming, too.

Some have learnt their lesson the hard way. There was this person online who was always criticizing a well-known celebrity until recently she needed his help, and people started to dig into her tweet she had made years ago criticizing the celebrity. In the end, she did not get the help she needed from him.

For someone who has something to lose, you must be careful about the things you share online, be careful about your opinion about others, and things happening around you, because you may be used as a scapegoat for others doing the same thing as you.

We have so many other cases like that. There was a time when some celebrities' bank accounts were frozen while some were arrested during a protest, and the reason was that they were saying bad things about the government. Even though they were protesting for the right thing and they were not the only doing doing the protest, we have other citizens of the country who joined them, but because they are celebrities and they have a voice, the government came for them.

It took a while before they were able to sort it, and since then, you will hardly see any celebrities meddling in state affairs, during the recent one that they tried protesting on tiktok and they started calling out Tiktok celeb to join, most of them didn't because they know the repercussion of calling out the government and they have more to lose than ordinary citizens...

Now back to the hive learner prompt on if someone should be dismissed for sharing their opinion or ideas online...

Regarding this, it all depends on what you shared. If it is going to affect the reputation of the company you are working for, then they did the right thing by dismissing the person, take responsibility for your actions alone without expecting others to suffer the consequences with you.

If a student also did something online that could ruin the reputation of his school, dismissal is not a bad thing to protect the school and other students who know how to be civil online... people should not go around saying things they know could backfire at them and wanting others to bear the consequence with them...

It’s always good to be responsible for one’s actions. If anyone suffers for their wrong or poor decisions, it will serve as a warning to others to do better.

Rightly so! Freedom isn't necessarily free, you can't expect to do or say something online and get away with it, especially if it's something that ends up harming others. We should be responsible citizens both online and offline :)

It's advisable to share the authentic information. I think we need to be responsible what we share.

In case of harming the reputation I think it depends on what the person shared. There is nothing wrong also sharing the real fact even if it harm the reputation of the company or school. The real fact is who's fault cause the trouble.
