Elections, Promises, and Accountability: What Needs to Change
Whenever elections are held anywhere, then its promotion goes on with great force. You must have seen so many posters and banners. Nowadays, promotion is done online as well. Different types of banners are made and they are promoted on online platforms and they are also promoted offline. Earlier, offline time was more but nowadays promotion is being done online as well because everyone spends most of their time on their mobile phones or other things due to which online promotion is considered to be easier and more accurate. See, nowadays you spend most of your time online, in such a situation, your service provider or your government has a lot of your data, it depends on which website you use and many websites are ready to give billing data to the government but some websites oppose it. It depends whether the website is from your country or somewhere else. See, whatever the reason, the propaganda spread increases rapidly during the election time.
If I talk about India, here you get to see this even more, holdings are hung at many places and banners are put up and when a big leader feels ashamed somewhere, his future is welcomed and a lot of money is also spent on him. So overall, whenever elections are held, every person who stands for any post goes to meet each other and they make all kinds of promises that if we win the election then we will do this for you, we will do that and who knows what else. And mostly we have seen that whenever a person wins the election then he forgets all his promises because his aim was not like this from the beginning. There are many leaders who work for the people but it is often seen that people come for some salon just to fill their pockets and then they are not even affected by what pain and suffering the people are going through. There are very few elected leaders who think about the people and work for them but such people are very lacking and it seems as if the fault is ours because we are responsible for all these things.
I feel there are some things that need to be improved. If all these things are implemented then things can become much easier for us.
Show the citizens what they've done this far -:
Look, when elections are being held, people are being encouraged to vote. At that time, the candidates often infuriate a lot of people, and even after winning, they forget everything. But this shouldn't be the case. Look, all our elected candidates, who have become your leaders, should have a sense of responsibility and should take responsibility for who they are and what their duty is. If all these things become ingrained in the people, then things can change significantly.
See, not everything will happen on its own, people will also have to take accountability for this and people will have to be aware and they should ask their elected leaders that whatever promises you were making, you should tell us about the progress on UN and all these things should be open so that if things are open for everyone then you can easily see what is happening and what is not. A few months ago you saw in Nepal also that there was a huge protest and after that a new PM was elected there, many changes have been made, only after some time we will know how things are going, right now everything seems neutral there.
Change the elected leaders -:
And see what kind of option should be there that if the elected leader is not doing the things that you have asked for in the given time, then you should have the option to change him, it is not that you should not do the real actor, you can choose whichever other candidate has won after him and he should be given a chance to see what changes he can make and whether he fulfills his promises or not. See, all this is not as easy as it sounds to say because whenever a government changes, then many things change and there is a lot of paperwork too which takes a lot of time but to do all these things immediately, everything should be public due to which people will know what the process is and what all things are happening. Although nowadays many things have been made public but still many things are kept private due to which people remain deprived of a lot of information.
Transparency in the budgets and expenses -:
Whenever any literate leader is elected then he does a lot of work for his area and also passes the budget for his area, he writes about road development, it is related to education, it is related to hospital, it can be anything else, he gets a lot of money from the government for that. But sometimes it happens that the money for which the money has been received does not reach till the money reaches it, there should be some transparency in all the things so that people can know how much budget is being made and how much money is being spent, if all these things become public then maybe whatever corruption is there, it can be reduced a lot. And I feel like there is a lot of demand for things like blockchain technology that can be proven.
How the tax money is being used - :
Whatever government is in power, it has many ways to spend money. The government also generates revenue from the taxes paid by the citizens. In what ways does the government generate revenue? All these things should also be made transparent, like how much money is being collected per month, because nowadays everything is online, so it is much easier to track things. If that happens, then people can know how much funds the government has and where it is being used. A lot of other information can also be obtained, which will bring transparency everywhere.
My personal opinion here is that if all these things can be implemented then we will get to see a lot of changes around us and this is also necessary because we have been seeing for a long time that new leaders keep coming and they make a lot of changes for themselves but no one thinks much about the common people and everyone just keeps luring them by giving them something or the other for free. But nothing is going to happen by giving free house or free money, all these things are temporary, if you want to see real anger then you should stay away from all these things and demand development, demand employment and also demand the necessary things around you, instead of being happy with free money or ration.

Democracy is a really complicated thing, so many opinions to listen to, so many different ideas that have the opportunity to work, transparency alone is just one of the keys to make things work but there is also audits, continuation, but at the core the worst problem is corruption, even with all the right ingredients in place but we still got corruption I doubt things can properly work out, some call El Salvador an authoritarian country now days and doubt its a true democracy but its crazy what you get when you almost eradicate corruption first, thx for sharing āļø
I completely agree with your point. Free money, food, or housing may provide temporary relief, but they are not long-term solutions, I don't know who will help me explain that to them. What communities truly need are good roads, quality education, healthcare, security, and most importantly, employment opportunities.
If citizens rights to demand for accountability, transparency, and meaningful progress will be given to them, instead of them being satisfied with temporary gifts, I think there will be a little change.
