Back in the days when I used to be a fan of physical reading but why it has now turned to that word usage of "used to be" and how it happened I really can't say or remember.
I know my interest of reading started from newspaper. Having my dad buy all these newspapers of The Punch, Alaroye and the likes but what really initially attracted me to start reading newspaper was the comic story part that is always towards the end of the newspaper.
I love reading it and would always look forward to another paper my dad was going to buy the next day (newspapers were my book covers then since we had it many, been brought in daily) and from the comic story, I got attracted to another story of an incident in the paper which made me saw another part to the newspaper and since then I harbored the habit of reading the whole pages in the newspaper and not just scrapping the first few pages to the comic story page.
All through primary to secondary school level, I remember how I would save up my food or break time allowances to get a story book (we know it as story book then instead of novel) back then at the rate of 50naira, up till the time that we upgraded to exchanging our story books amidst my classmates as long as you have the one I can read then you get mine was the strategy of reading more books.
Some other books recommended in school that I knew I read and re-read back to back were these WAEC recommended novels. I'm not sure I can remember everything but I can't ever forget the Yoruba one of APOTI ALAKARA.
I can't really remember how the story went, what it is about or what brought about that title which I would translate to English to be Beancake seller's stooll. Probably her stool was stolen or got spoilt, hehe.
Like I was really a fan of reading while growing up but what now really happened along the line? I cant really say like I said and the last time I indeed knew I was reading a physical book was when I was writing my final exam in 2021 after COVID.
You must be saying or thinking in your mind that No o I should not have read now, lol.
Who would wish to have an issue with anything related to school for extra year? God forbid but whatever book I had read after then was either e-book, Sunday school, Bible or evangelism pamphlet.
I know that spirit of reading physical books still lies somewhere and hopefully I'll try to take up on one to read soon as long as there's something to gain from it, either educating or for the fun of it but no matter what, there's always something to gain from reading.
Reading is actually good and great for our brain based on research and even in terms of acquiring knowledge, our personal growth and improving our communication skills so I would really wish I reactivate the habit of reading again for my own benefit. It is one sweet spot of me I think I have lost and would love to regain and ignite back.
I'll be dropping my 🖊️ here on the Hive Learners prompt
Thanks for reading through 🤗

It started out very simply and naturally, with comic strips in the newspaper, and it grew until it became a strong habit. It's funny how routines change and we let go of some passions without even realizing it, right? But you can see that the taste is still there, just waiting for a good reason to return.
