My Country, My dear Nation!
My country has practiced different kinds of rulling system. There were times military people were rulling and my Yoruba people will call it Ijoba Ologun Meaning Autocratic mode of government after getting our independence in 1960 from the colonial administration but it was definitely not palatable with most citizens due to the hardships and rules of don't pee don't poo (follow the last order, no say, no input) but we never would dispute the fact that some citizens still prefer this mode of government till date especially after being under the rulling of democracy.
Now, here is where we get to talk about DEMOCRACY.
Most citizens raised their hopes on getting a better government since the previous one was a kind of hell and this was introduced to them as a government of the people. Citizens get to choose who would lead them, they can always complain when they are not satisfied and I can bet it that at the time that this was presented, no one would ever refuse this blank cheque not even those who loved the Autocratic type of leadership.
Unfortunately, the good laid out plan and format was and is been handled by the wrong people who called themselves leaders. We practiced and keep practicing the opposite of democracy with an outerior pretense that we are practicing democracy.
Citizens are complaining and keeps on complaining to deaf ears that can't hear what they say. We are more or less unseen to the people in charge of rulling the nation as our emotions are worthless and tears like flows of water that enriches their smiles in their closets.
How has democracy gotten to do with nonchalantly taking measures that jeopardize the welfare of your citizens? One of our own resources (Petrol) been increased like 4 times its initial price and every other economical sector gets affected.
We were told citizens have a say in the government but whenever this was meant to happen, it is either an ambush is laid for the exact citizen who chose to be outspoken and labeled red on their lists and if it's a group of protest then an order from above is sent to dissolve the protest whichever way.
This makes me remember one of the many major protests that was held, a particular one in 2020. Sadly it's a year that no one with either good or bad conscience would ever forget, not even the cruel leaders who gave the order for the shooting against the masses.
Sounds of gunshots that led to the bloodshed of peaceful protesters even while carrying the flag of the nation as a means of protection but still ended up losing their lives.
It was and still remain a terrifying day that gets tears dropping down my eyes, Several citizens got injured and many arrested all because they observed something of their civic rights and at the end of the day, no justice is served for those who go against the government.
Everyone is silenced silently not to talk so how is that different from the Autocratic type of government.
We are running an Autocratic government under the identity and pretense of democracy.
If left to me, I would say I don't know which better government to practice because this whole government of a thing only favours the riches, those in power and those who are in support of the person in power but having being under the government of a few past leaders who unfortunately couldn't live long or make it through another term to set things right, I believe that if democracy in my dear nation could fall in the hands of God fearing leaders who would be eaten up by the mission to make masses live right and okay then we would really enjoy democracy and there would be hope of having a voice in leading the nation right unlike the military era.
I just wish things could back to when petrol was 200 naira and we were still complaining of when it will go down in price, when bag of rice was around 20k something in price, when a family of 5 could still make a good mouth-watering pot of soup with 5,000naira, only, when having a thousand naira at hand feels like you still have much to spend and when a 100,000 naira looks like a million in account but unfortunately fortunately my hope is built on nothing less....
No matter what, God bless my nation and it's my prayer that God keeps my nation out of the reach of the gluttonous leaders and also initiate the wisdom in the heart of the citizens to choose rightly without manipulation and greediness when it's time to cast our votes.
I'll be dropping my 🖊️ here on the Hive Learners community prompt.
