IS GENDER EQUITY ACHIEVABLE?

Okay I'm your friend adaezeinchrist, and For today looking at the topic - Gender Equity. I feel as if It is actually what we need to talk about at this period. At this point when some Gender feels neglected. Some gender feel that they are not recognized I think we need to talk about gender equity, especially in Africa where I come from.

We give special attention to some gender. Very special attention to a particular agenda. and the others attention is not received. The female gender does not receive that kind of attention In Africa Especially here in Nigeria . If you are a male then you have all the attentions needed. You have everything going well. the culture working for you The laws of the land working for you. The laws working for you In families. Most of the marriages In the society Even in the churches You have everything working out for you But if you are a female You are limited. Because there are some things you are not permitted to do, the law is against it. You're not permitted to go to some places, to see some things. But for the males , they are free to do anything they want.

Now when we talk about gender Equity we know that it is not equity actually Equity means doing right to everybody. Saying that everybody is the same, having the same authority. having the same power, having the same license to a particular thing that is what Equity means. But when you come and say that you favor this particular gender more than the other gender, you notice that It is not equity it is not gender equity, and this is sometimes we are selfish about it. sometimes we only think of ourselves and not think of how the other person feels. So, gender equity is in a situation where we have both the men and female treated the same way. Go through the same punishment when they do something wrong. I had this neighbors who use to live very close to us back then. The husband has all the right to have extra marital affairs and the woman doesn't.

This is a situation where the husband Goes out and misbehaves with other ladies outside, nobody sees it as anything wrong. it's correct. They say that he is the man, he has the right to go and have as many women as he wants. But when his wife goes out to maybe meet a man or befriend, or even caught sleeping with a man , She's in trouble. She's going to be in big trouble Because they will say she doesn't have the right to do that but her husband has that right. For me, this is not gender Equity. Okay. People have feelings too. Both male and female have feelings.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AT HOME.

When it comes o to financial responsibility. It is easy . Financial responsibility in a family for gender equity, if everybody becomes the same how do we share the responsibility? Is not working that way. We are sharing responsibilities in our families according to what we ear at the end of the month. if you go to some families the children are splitted into two the husband takes responsible for some children, while the wife will be responsible for some children. At the end of the month they know how much they need to bring for their feeding and upkeep in their families. This is what I think should work for us in our families. That also implies that both the man and his wife must have something to do that brings money to the family.

When we apply the gender equity in our families , is just for us to continue to o make sure that everybody have a special amount to present . When the lady brings her own contribution to the house and the husband brings his own, things will work better.

UNFAIR TREATMENT FOR WOMAN
There are families where the man takes everything his wife has at the end of the month and claims that he is the head of the family. So e men are wicked. He will collect everything and refuse to give her anything for her upkeep or even that of her children.

IN SUMMERY.

I believe that the man Should be able to take responsibility for some certain things at home, and also the woman should take responsibility for other things. That is what I see as Gender Equity. This is the right thing, except if they is any one of them that is not working, but if both of them are working they should share responsibilities according to what the earn at the end of every week or month.
Family responsible is not what should be left for one person.

Gender Equity means treating the male children the same way you treated the girl child. Treating the husband the same way you treated the wife. If the male children are given scholarship, then it should go for the female too.

I believe that with this we can make adjustments is our society and embrace maybe if there is anywhere we need to make changes in our society we'll go ahead and do that.
