Human behavior can be judged, and also can't be judged. I think it depends on the personality of the person in question. There are times when you will expect something different from a person due to the outer appearance such a person has or some qualities such a person claims to have. But in the end, what you get is a bunch of disappointment.
We then hear people saying “this is not expected of you,” despite your so-so and so, we tend to judge such a person due to the qualities and not the person's personality. For example, someone who is learned and maybe a graduate from the university. We tend to see such a person as wise and smart because passing through those stages is not a joke.
When such a person behaves in a manner that goes against the qualifications of a degree holder or a graduate, then we tend to see them as a different person. Meanwhile, the person was just his natural self. Humans tend to change, but it is not something compulsory or mandatory for everyone.
You might be literate and still not possess some qualities of literacy. You might be rich and still not act rich or look rich. So it's not really about the outer appearance. It's about the person himself.
I came across someone sometime ago who happened to be a customer of my boss. He is a fish breeder too, but was in need of extra fish to complete his order. At first, when I saw him, I thought he was someone who was struggling to meet up with his business. My boss looked way better than he did in appearance.
While we were doing the counting, a conversation began, and then my mouth opened in surprise. He asked how well I have been coping with the training so far, and I responded. He then tried to encourage me not to give up because there is a fortune in it.
He asked about the school I graduated from and my course of study. I told him, and then he said he is also a master's degree holder in aquaculture. Wow! Then he added that he has been into fish farming since he was in his second year 2 of his first degree.
He added that he is just a graduate with those certificates, but what’s helping him is his professionalism in the field, which he gathered through experience over time. I was patiently listening to him as if I had just met an angel. He told me about a friend of his who has a doctorate and is a lecturer, who is still living way lower than he is.
I appreciated his words and then realized that it's not always about the literary skills, but about the person who owns the skills. Being literate doesn’t automatically make you a good person or have a good personality; it is just there to shape you to become a better version of yourself and bring out the best in you.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 174 Edition 2, and the topic to be discussed is LITERACY.
Honestly, this is proof that appearance don't matter. It is important to not judge a book by its cover. A masters degree holder in aquaculture is not a small thing.
No doubt. He has gone far
Same way you will go far and be crediting my wallet 🧎🏿♀️
I love the aspect of personality that you raised because sometimes nor be literacy or illiteracy matter na just the person character Nai Dey one kind. More so let us know that there is such a thing as uneducated literate. Then sabi read and write and get degree but they have little experience when it comes to navigating life’s turns.
