Private sectors can’t play the role of government

It depends on the type of nation we find ourselves in and the type of governance that occurs in such a nation. This will go a long way in determining the kind of service that citizens would enjoy in the country.

Normally, all nations should enjoy the services and facilities from the federal government because they have all the right to it. They pay their taxes and so make it the responsibility of the government to provide them with infrastructures and services.

In Nigeria today, we can tell which we enjoyed the most. It's not always about good governance anymore. Now it is all about individuals. Our country is so tough to the extent that a lot of people would keep complaining and ranting about bad governance, but deep down they are the ones damaging and looting the federal resources that should be available for everyone.

We can't say the government has done enough, but we are solely the cause of our problems in the country.

I remember a time when the government did a street light in a community where we served. The street light was powered by a solar panel and an inverter. The community was so appreciative of the government and they really enjoyed the amenities.

The government promised that their next project would be to dig a borehole that will be powered by solar for them too. So they can have water all through.

It never got up to a month before the people of the community realized that the street light wasn't working anymore. What Could’ve Been the Cause? Then they realized that someone had already stolen the inverter.

With this type of scenario, do you think the government would still be willing to support such a community further?

The government should find possible means to make sure they have their rights, but not with the citizens themselves not maintaining the ones they had.

Another issue is that private individuals like companies and industries are about to establish in some areas. They tend to provide their service to the community that will be hosting them.

At times they work on providing good roads and electricity to the community since they will also be at advantages using them. And there are times when they also provide other amenities like clinics. All of these are of importance to them and the community.

But notwithstanding, all of these are limited to some extent when we compare them to government services. The government has the reach to extend its services to every aspect of the nation and also they tend to be more standard than the private sector.

For example, comparing a federal hospital to a private hospital. Though in private hospitals you might get good attention, good attendance, and also hospitality at its peaks. But there is a limit to the services they can render.

Compared to the federal hospitals which might be so crowded and not hospital-friendly. But there is almost every service you need from them.

In conclusion

Private services are okay, but we still need the government to do more. If the government plays its part then the private services would just be of support to the society.
