I can’t say living as a celebrity is easy or having that fame is easy to handle. You can only tell how it feels to be one when you become one. When you see a rich man, you think he has almost everything in the world, while deep inside of him, a lot is going through him.
When you have money, you realize that the wealthier you become, the heavier your responsibilities. Someone who doesn’t have many issues would just contend with the little that comes their way. But once you have, that is the beginning of an unending problem.
You start thinking of how to get more money, and you are also thinking about not getting poor, you have people around, and a lot of things to attend to. That's just life for us. We can't know what someone is going through until we get in their shoes.
The same thing is also applicable to a celebrity or someone famous. There was a time when I watched an interview with Ronaldo. He is one of the world-famous personalities. He was interviewed about how he feels when he is in public places with his family.
He said it's not easy to be a public figure, especially when he is out with his family. There is no privacy for him. That he can't even pick his nose whenever he wants to. Imagine you have things that you need to do, but you just can't because a lot of people are watching you. A slight mistake from you, then you are viral and everywhere. Something others will do and no one would see it somehow.
That's the life of celebrities. If I were asked to choose between fame and wealth, then I would go for wealth and ignore fame. One of the greatest challenges those celebrities face is losing their fame. It is just like climbing up a ladder and falling off it.
Just the multidimensionality of life, fingers are not equal, the way we have the rich, we have the poor, we have female and male, we have humans and animals, we also have celebrities and fans. Celebrities are nothing without their fans. They are just their normal self like everyone else if they have no one to appreciate them and like their service.
So as for fans going crazy and aggressive when they meet with their favourite celebrity is not something worth it. This is because you are not the only one who loves them. They have a lot more people too. So why go crazy?
I so much appreciate the recent trend of a young boy who was a Liverpool fan. He acted perfectly well when he met with the players in real life. So mature and well-mannered. He even makes it so emotional despite being a young guy.
I felt he gave himself some self-respect too. Meeting with people he never expected to come across in his life right in front of him. His reactions were so amazing.
Living as a celebrity is not something easy. And most times it also depends on individual personalities. If we remember that they are also humans like us and they weren’t born as a public figures. Sometimes some of them are so jovial, carefree, and friendly. I guess it's just their nature even before they became a public figure.
While some have the personality of not relating with people, they just want to be themself in their privacy. So I don't think anyone is to be blamed in any way, both the aggressive fans and the aggressive celebrities. It's all part of human nature.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 154 Edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is FANS AND CELEBRITIES
while don't buy the ideal of fans acting in an unruly manner, I think celebrities should find a way to manage the situation because they need the fans more than fans needed them.
Fans going crazy when they meet their favorite celebrity does no good to them, instead, it reduces their steeze
The pressure of being a celebrity is huge, as you said, people often think it's easy, but it's totally difficult.
