Effect Of Climate Change In My Area.

It’s raining presently as I write this which means we are presently in the peak time for the rainy season. And then maybe sometime in October or November then we can have another change in the climates to the harmattan or dry season.

I am sure this climate change will surely have an impact on almost everyone’s existence, be it the rainy season or the dry season. For example, those who are into block/brick production in my area always have it hard to keep up with work during the rainy season compared to the dry season when everything is dry and their production is at its peak.

As for the arable farmers, they are not interested in the dry season at all but derive joy in the rainy season because at that time their crops grow best and their production is at its peak. There are some others that both seasons are just kinda favorable to them. Because they have their production all year round without the effect of climate change.

As humans, we are most times always not satisfied with each climate change we experience. We will always have a reason to complain. In my area, when it’s raining you will see everyone complaining about the bad roads and this is because of the muddy splashing that comes from vehicles when they deep into any stagnant water by the roadside.

It's always difficult for pedestrians to walk because the roads get slippery and if care is not taken you will find your face lying flat on the floor.

Gone with the rainy season, you will think there won't be any complaints again since the roads are dry and free of mud. But no, my people will complain of too much dust. The roads remain dusty so if you are not careful then you get your feet and clothes filled with dust. That's just the relationship between humans and climates.

As a fish farmer who is into fish breeding, I have experienced a lot of impacts of climate change on my work. This is because each climate change comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

Since I deal with water as my major factor of production, I am always having this issue of water level rise when it's the rainy season and then this has an effect on the PH, hardness, and ammonia contents in the water. There are times when the water I pump out will be so dirty and colored that I will have to flush it for some time before it gets clean.

I had a production recently, and I encountered some loss on it, this was because of the sudden change in the water level, it affected the fish and they all died. Those who struggled to survive are not worth working on.

As for the dry season, the water level is low and cold for production, but the drawback is the weather. Whenever it comes to harmattan, then it's always something serious, because I also have to control the temperature too. I have to make it warmer and conducive for the fish to survive.

In conclusion, climate change is something inevitable, it will keep recurring every day of our life. So since it's part of nature, it is now left to us to try as much to find a way to control it and make good use of it.

This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 172 Edition 2, and the topic to be discussed is CLIMATE CHANGE.

Climate change affects us in various ways. As someone in the agricultural field, I hope you have been able to find ways and means to handle such seasons .

It is difficult to deal with climatic changes when they shave your work, and more with animals that are so sensitive to it, due to reproduction and diseases that can contract because of that precisely, since with high temperatures they get sick or die
