We live in a world where the rich have their ways and the poor get punished for the rich. It's like a game where money is in place, the more money you hold, the more your power, the more your powers the more your influence and decision.
Crimes and criminals have their way so far they know the way. But the less privileged and poor ones who have nothing will pay for the crimes they never committed and will be declared criminals.
Justice and injustice have become a mix-up. Judges are not just anymore, as they tend to temper justice with injustice, tagging decent criminals as decent.
All of these are just different in different parts of the world. Sometimes we realize that there are some crimes that some people commit and then they get bailed afterwards. While some will commit the same or similar crime and get jailed for it.
Sometimes you get to realize that some people are sentenced to life imprisonment and then when you get to ask for their crimes you realize it is not even something worth 10 months of imprisonment. Some that even deserve death by hanging will be given 12 months imprisonment and then they get out on the street again committing the same crime or even worse.
All of these can never set good examples in society. It is so sad that some crimes don't deserve harsh punishment. Though crimes are crimes, no doubt they shouldn’t go unpunished. But there should be a scale for the level of offenses and their punishment.
A case study of a young boy who went to loot a store to pack food and drinks got caught by the people around. Then the next thing that was brought on him was his demise. He was beaten to death, people took the law into their own hands. It's such a pity.
Even if such a boy were taken to police custody for the crime committed he would rather rot in jail because there is no one to come to his rescue.
On the other hand, a politician who just embezzled federal property, despite the riches and wealth at his disposal, is still not satisfied and wants more from the people's money. Such a politician will never be touched not to talk of being beaten by the people.
All you will hear is rants and complaints from the people, they will only acknowledge by words that his actions were not morally inclined to that of a figurehead. But what's there to be done? Nothing!.
At the end of it all he will lavish those funds on unnecessary things and then you see that same set of people hail him again. He might have been above the law because to the law embezzlement might not be a crime anymore but a little boy who is hungry and needs support deserves to be punished.
This is the cruel world we find ourselves in. And I hope someday, somehow, there will be changes to the law and criminals get what they deserve. A system where no one is above the law.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 147 Edition 3 and the topic to be discussed is ITS A JUSTIFIABLE CRIME
Such is life, very unfair. I guess power also matters. Let’s all work hard to be big people in future, but not ones who will steal from our own people.
justice system is rigged often in the favor of those with money to spare.
