It’s no news that health is wealth, and even when you get to witness the best of your lifestyle, you place your health as a priority. No matter what, when you are deprived of good health, then I can say that it will be a little difficult to live a good life.
Most times, we tend to blame nature for the consequences of our health; meanwhile, in the real sense, we are the ones harming our health. We most times are not always watchful of the things we take in; some of them are not medically advisable, some should be taken with caution, like when you take a little bit of it, then it's fine. Exceeding them could cause harm. These are things we slip at times and expect our health to remain the same.
A young guy might think smoking cigarettes is a form of enjoyment for him, not until he begins to witness the side effects of it, and he runs into treatments, but it's too late.
When I was in my service year, I never knew people drank so much alcohol, not until I witnessed different warehouses loaded with crates of alcohol. Hehe. I was like, in this part of the world, people cherish alcohol so much that it's not even in bars they get to drink it again, they take it like a normal drink.
I know that the government will surely have some tax imposed on the breweries, but will that be enough to regulate the rate of alcohol intake in such a community?
Though there will always be a way out. There are some wealthy individuals who won't feel it, no matter the amount taxed on each bottle, but at least it will surely curb those who are not financially stable from wasting their funds on those things; rather, they channel it to getting something healthy that will aid their health.
It’s actually a good thing if the government could impose such a task on all of these unhealthy substances. At times, it's not advisable to place a ban on them or eradicate them completely from the market. Some of these things, the same way they get abused when taken in excess, are also the same way they save lives when recommended for medical use.
The healthy tax will put people on the way they use these things. For example, a tax is placed on each gram of sugar sold. Those who are used to taking heavy sugar before will try reconsidering other options that are way cheaper and healthier. They can consider the use of honey to replace the sugar intake, which could lead to higher sugar levels.
I will accept the suggestion that the government should impose a healthy tax on harmful substances. This creates a boundary to the way people get to use and abuse things that are harmful to their health, and thereby not tampering with the use case of such substances in other aspects of life.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 164 Edition 3, and the topic to be discussed is HEALTHY TAX
True, most time health challenges in later life are caused by excessive usage of certain substances, only if there were restrictions to curb them early on.
