I have seen this kind of thing happen in movies when some scientists detect extraordinary genes in some people that could be of good use. Most of them are successful, but in the end, they always fall into the wrong hands.
Now, I am born to cure the world. The universe detected I was the cure to cancer, and now they needed my life to undergo tests, operations, in short, they needed me as a sample to cure cancer.
So, will I be a volunteer to save the world or not? At the expense of my own life?
It won't be an easy decision for me because I remember some time ago when I was summoned as the head of an administration during my service year. I was told that a woman in labour needed an urgent blood donation. I was told the required blood type and group. All I need to do is find a compatible person who is also willing to be a donor.
I have heard about blood banks, and people donating blood for sale or voluntarily, but all I could think of is how they would drain a sachet of blood from my body and still expect me to be balanced.
That day, I gathered people who were eligible and willing to donate. I was about to tell them how to get to the hospital before one of the elders who passed the info across asked me to lead them down there. Then they asked about my blood type and why I wasn't willing to donate.
I said I have never done one before, but my blood type matches. So, because of my slim body, I don't think I have any blood to donate. I am still managing the few blood cells running in my body. They all laughed and closed the topic.
Funny thing was that when we got to the hospital, they ran tests for all those who were willing to donate, and then they were not even compatible in any way. The only person who was compatible had a low blood level, so she was advised to increase her blood level. The only option left was me!
So will I have to do this?! Should I decline it? My heart skipped. So this is what fate is all about. They took my blood sample for the test, and I was compatible and could also donate. So the blood in my slim body will donate?. And that was how I decided to go for it. It was successful, and I was glad I could be of help in saving a soul.
So now I think this is also something similar, but not similar in the sense that it will have to take a lifetime. Had they been able to just get my blood sample, run the test, and then duplicate the gene they need for the cure, then it would have been better. But here I have to sacrifice my existence. That's where the problem is.
I don’t think it’s something I will opt for. I won’t. I don't want to die yet, even becoming a superhero. My first instinct is screaming NO! And that will be my decision. But it is bound to change depending on the situation on the ground. If the terms and conditions are something bearable for me, then I will go for it, and if not, I am not in for it.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 166 Edition 1, and the topic to be discussed is FOR A CURE
Haha, the fact that your body is small doesn’t mean you can’t donate blood.
Well, this decision is subjective and your reasons are justifiable
It is oo. It’s not easy to be a sacrificial lamb. Even God saved Abraham and his son. Who am I?
It’s not easy choosing between saving others and saving yourself. Giving your blood is one thing, giving your whole life is another. If the process requires your existence to end, then saying no is completely valid. Life is precious, and it’s okay to protect yours.
That’s it. It’s not something easy as observe. At times being a Good Samaritan is not what it takes.
The fact is that no matter what altruist you are, pharmaceutical industry is not altruist, and they just will use and discard you.
That’s it. Once they get what they want, the world might just mourn your absence then they move on.
